I will be doing a 160km - 200km training ride next Sat from JHB for anybody in the area that wants to join, PM me.

I plan on doing that on the weekend of the Crater Cruise. The plan is to do the 115km as hard as I can and then motorpace back to Potch. That should give me a good hard 170km for the day (if I make it) and then about 5 hours again on the Sunday.

It's actually a dirt race for roadies  , lots of district road with the odd single- and jeeptrack here and there, the only technical bit being the descent from Suikerbossie. The roads are in more or less the same condition as on the Dash, so I'm getting some corrugation training done as well.

Aha, hmmm sounds like a maybe.

What are the dates? Also, that descent, how bad is it? I literally cannot hike a bike at all at the moment.

10 and 11 September. The descent is steep and rocky but very ride-able, if you keep your wits about you, you shouldn't have any issues. I'm no Greg Minnaar, but I managed it fine...

Greg Minnaar - 19 time down-hill world cup winner and world down-hill champ...  :D

If you're pure roadie, may a little walk will be in order...

Fortunately the dash is gravel road all the way...

I did the Gravel Xpress yesterday. It was a good reality check on how much training I still need to do...

Now I'm really stressing!

Jinne you okes are doing more training than me and I am riding 4 times the distances. Maybe there is a story there

Perhaps you need to train more? :P

Did my first ever century ride this weekend, 105.7km. It was tough, but put me at ease for the dash. Other team members did very good times/distances as well

My bike is in for some repairs, so I had to do today's long-ish ride on the wattbike... 110km, and could at least maintain my power above 2 x body weight for the first three hours...  Last year this time I couldn't even maintain 1.75 x BW for 1 hour.

So hopefully I'm getting there...

How technical is this "gravel road".

Not at all, some sand sections in the last couple of stages, and corrugations, but Not technical.

I think 'till 2/3 years ago some guys fitted TT bars on their MTBs, if that gives you an idea
