fanievb Posted December 19, 2016 Author Posted December 19, 2016 So I got the opportunity to buy a very decent Tri bike, full carbon etc. Now I have 2 questions around the bike for the seasoned entrants.1. I am quite strong in my cycling but considering that I will start riding with the tribike in Jan. Will it give me enough time to be comfy on the bike come EL? 2. The bike is fully tri and carbon with 50mm carbon wheels. What other accessories or add ons should I consider putting on the bike, if any? Then my last question, I am looking for a good looking tri suit. Troisport does not have anything different and bike basement also got rid of their tri gear.Where can I go and get something that would not just be the norm? I am in Jhb if it helps Thanks try this thread https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/160351-give-it-a-tri/ keep in mind that if the wind blows in EL you'll probably struggle with the deep wheels if you are not used to riding in the wind.

I am in Jhb if it helps ThanksI think changing it in Jan is leaving it a bit late, i would not change if i was you (changed from one road bike to another 2 years ago and i could feel the difference in the race). EL is going to be windy so train with the wheels in windy conditions to get use to it (it is easier on a road bike). Try contacting these guys as not all of their design is on the webpage (usually)http://www.funkypants.co.za/

Cycling Major Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 So would the general consensus be to leave or take the new tribike to EL... Giving me a month, about 2 weekly 1 hour rides and then a 3 or 4 hour ride over the weekend to make the transition from road bike to tribike?
_David_ Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 My 2c... If it was me and I just bought a tri bike, I'd take the tri bike:-) I think a month is enough time to get used to it and the tri bike will help with the run afterwards (if setup correctly)

gurns Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Hi Guys Need a little advice - Getting into triathlon and also entered EL 70.3 Been sticking to the following routine for a couple of months Swimming - Mon & Wed group indoor pool swim +- 2Km per session Tuesday & Thursday- run or IDT - Run either 8-10Km or IDT 45Min Friday - normally rest - hopefully get into routine of a Friday sea swim Sat & Sunday - Long ride (well long for me) +- 80km / Brick session As you guys have done quite a few IM 70.3's does it sound like I am on the right track from a training plan perspective or do I need start waking up early and uping the training sessions?? It sounds like you are on the right track. If you are aiming for a sub 6hr time, then you might have to throw in some specific training. Otherwise, looking very good!!
Wheelsuck Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 ThanKs for the advice... So if I get an opportunity to get there he will be able to put me in Pefect position? He is very good at getting you in an optimised position to get maximum power and the hip flexors open for a better run. Uses a lot of technology and knows his stuff. To answer your question is there a perfect position? I guess it depends how long your body takes to stay in the drops and how that impact on arms, shoulders and lower back. For 70.3 EL you will sit up a lot to get efficient for the hills going and coming back is when you will be on the bars. So it will be easier to get into and stay in the drops.

Will give them a shout today or tomorrow to set something up... I heard EL will have some climbing so would need to sit up...Any difference in leg fatigue or power output betweem tri bike and normal road bike or should that not be an issue between the two... if you sit up on the tri bike of course
