Cycling Major Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Joh this thread is amazing for info from seasoned athletes... One more thing I was thinking about is when to start tapering the training.?So I will be going all out but when and by how much should you be pulling back before 29Jan Again thanks to all who is making this first one easier to understand CM
Wheelsuck Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Will give them a shout today or tomorrow to set something up... I heard EL will have some climbing so would need to sit up...Any difference in leg fatigue or power output betweem tri bike and normal road bike or should that not be an issue between the two... if you sit up on the tri bike of course I dont think there will be much of a difference. This is my personal experience and should anyone else have better info it would be interesting. I train with a power meter and when I take my road bike to training vs tri bike I find i have more power on the road bike (about 10-15watts-which is negligible), but my HR is highre then so it is not all about pushing watts it is about efficiency so if you can save your legs as much as you can on the bike the better it is for later in the race. But in the race one gets so caught up and start burning matches early so take it easy on the out stretch and if you feel okay then blitz the back part but be carefull of that last climb into town..it just comes at the wrong time.
Wheelsuck Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 @Cycling Major, have a look at this and use it as a guideline for your training, nothing is cast in stone but be aware of the taper that you asked about. Should help. https://issuu.com/firetreedesign/docs/training_plan_july
Wheelsuck Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Take the bike u can climb better with.Thinking of testing that theory -my roadbike weighs about a 1.5kg less than Tribike and think it is worth a try. Slap on the 60mm tubbys and she gets lighter and faster. What do you guys think?

shaper Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 What about the effect on your run thoigh as the tri setup will save your legsYou think the effect in setup will make much of a difference considering you will be sitting up for the 40kms of the bike leg as we are climbing to the turn around, so you only really going to get 45kms of benefit of aero and sitting on the nose when comming back down the M2...... am also considering taking my road bike rather than my tri-bike, although did it last year on my tri-bike.

Quite true!!! You think it would be easier on your road bike since you had the experience on the tri? LOL I thought I had my mind made up and now all you okes are making me doubt... still considering the tri bike since it is the new toy

That settles it then...The first 70.3 will be on the tri bike... Really getting excited. A little nervous but excited
Cycling Major Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 So Ive chatted to Troisport and to Richard Baxter but they are all only back on 9 Jan with doing setups... Are there any other reputable people that could help me and that you guys have had experience with I wanted to get it done a little sooner to give me some time in the saddle
gurns Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 That settles it then... The first 70.3 will be on the tri bike... Really getting excited. A little nervous but excitedGood choice. Just make sure you are comfortable and stable on the fast descents, as that can be a bit tricky on a tri bike.

Wheelsuck Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Try Mike http://sbrsport.co.zaForgot about Mike, also very good. He is also good with running shoes. So if you are n a rush then Mike. Also check out Cyclefit-Arran Brown and his crowd. @Cyclingmajor....Like the guys said- take it easy if this is your first one-about 50% of the field is heading off to their first one. Dont overthink it, train right and take the day as it comes.
