Does it make a difference to tax if you receive your bike in ten pieces?  Then its not a new bike, its spares.

 

I have heard of someone shipping in three separate parcels a week apart...which all ended up some pencil pushers desk at the same time in customs..and he analysed all three and realised they were one complete bike...bamm 40% (or whatever it is)

This is how I think SARS customs officals calculate import duties, as it depends who you get, what day, when it arrives, where it arrives and whats happening in Oscars trial.

Missing something here, so you are basically paying UK "VAT" which is around 20% by having it delivered to UK address, when your friend ships it out he will not be able to claim that back for you.

 

Then, when it arrives here you need to pay the 14% + Duties / handling etc as has been mentioned earlier in the thread on top of the UK VAT.

 

Now if it was a Pina you could pay for the flights there and back to fetch it yourself on the UK vat refund....
