To and from Muizenberg

Brilliant information. Thanks a lot.

Just wanted to add, if you commute from melkbos to muizenberg you would become a bit of a legend.

I am going to do it, but definitely not every day and only until we find a place to hide on that side of the Peninsula. If I would compare it to commuting to Century City, this commute wouldn't be faster than travelling by car, but still faster than travelling by public transport.

I will keep you all posted. Next week should be a first.

if you need repairs or a window shopping break there are three bike shops in a under kilometer in main road Kenilworth just FYI ^_^

Enjoy it and ride safe

This morning I decided to first try the long and pretty way in. A bit misty, but what a delight. Lots of hashtags, Two Oceans and most beautiful and I don't know what. I left at 5.45 and made it right in time for workwork.

Have a lekker day everyone.

Jeez, what a *** route to work, hey? Really, the things we have to put up with!

On a side note - if you're going to Muizies in the morning, you'll be against the Main Road traffic so it's pretty quick and easy. And you can wave at the people in the traffic jams, just to really rub it in.

So 3 hours one-way to start work at 9am. Assuming you have to work until 5, that means you're home at 8pm earliest? 6 hours commuting in one day? Respect. Not for me.

It is a long distance and not sure of his fitness level but I think that time will come down quickly. He was still taking pictures here  :whistling: .  My first commute here was 1:24 going pretty much flat out.  Now it is in under 1:10 if I am not sight seeing.

The Minister of Housing and I are looking at a nice habitat in the South. Until that time I might do this once a week. I am taking the shorter way home in the afternoon.

Fitness wise it can a tough nut, but it simulates a marathon for me. I cycle when I don't run. And y'oh, who wouldn't want to run when you are paddling up Kloofnek #moer.

And back the easier way. Thanks to some tips in this topics and some advise from a runner who does Muizies - Town quite regularly, I managed to get a nice route in. Tried to stay as West as possible - down Main Road until Tokai Rd, where I took a left, to take a right straight after the M3 underover. There it got interesting, as there is a hiking trail that is now a bit of a MTB route - parallel to the M3 and a stream.

I took that route till I hit Spaanschemat, from where I cruised on to Constantia Main Rd. I took Alphen Hill Rd to connect to Wolfe St on which I kept straight until I got on to Main Rd. And Main Rd wasn't too bad, despite the fact that it was dark. I should have checked Maps when I got past Mowbray, because I rode way to deep into Woodstock and I ended up at Christiaan Barnaard St. Not a biggie, because I wanted to get parallel to the N1 rather than take the West Coast Cycle Path with valuable gear in the bag.

There is a trail next to the N1 which gets quite rough, but the Gatorskins survived it. As soon as I got on Marine Drive it was familiar roads all the way to Melkbos.

Greenbelts on a road bike?!

Next time, when you're on the tar cycle track, don't take the trail to the right (signposted for MTB), stay on the tar track - it leads to the road, make a right at the T junction and you'll follow the same track and end up in the same place without the off roading!

I've done a fair share of off roading and gravel riding on this bike and it's not too bad. With enough pressure on the tyres it gives a bit of a CX feel. The Greenbelts were cool, apart from two or three roots and other bumps, where I just got off. A road bike is fast :)
