Didn't see this posted anywhere, so here...

It links Moscow to Vladivostok and covers a distance almost three times longer than the legendary Grande Boucle. The world’s longest bicycle stage race, Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme 2016 is on.

From July 5-28, the 10 participating riders will cross five climate and seven time zones. The track is divided into 14 stages ranging from 319 to 1372 kilometers, making for a total distance over 9,300km.

Over a similar period of time, the Tour de France 2016 that started in Normandy on July 2 will cover 3,535km.

The Trans-Siberian peloton will stop in the cities of Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Perm, and Ekaterinburg in the Urals, in Siberia’s Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude, Chita, Svobodny and Khabarovsk before finishing in the Pacific port of Vladivostok.

Alexei Shchebelin (Russia), Andreas Fuchs and Eduard Fuchs (Austria), Pascal Pich (France), Marcelo Florentino Soares (Brazil) and Pwinn Rujikietkhomjron (Thailand) are vying for the solo crown. Mikhail Manyakhin/Roman Markaryan (Russia) and Martin Temmen/Matthias Fischer (Germany) are competing in the duo category.

Eduard Fuchs, who’s last year’s runner up, just won the opening stage from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod, covering 392km from the Russian capital to the country’s fifth largest city in 9 hours 55 minutes and 18 seconds. His average speed? 39.5km/h.

Two more stages await before the Ural Mountains. After a rest day at the Baikal Lake in Irkutsk, the second half of the route will take the riders on stages all longer than 700km, including the Amur challenge, the longest stage with more than 1,400km.
