Guys what you need to remember is that ... especially for the XCO which lasts an hour and a half - focus is generally on Nino in front, then Nino in front, then someone puncturing ... and Nino in front ....

So as commentators Rob and Bart have instruction to talk about different aspects of the event and bike technology during to race to keep things "current" and informative - they have a check list of what needs to be "discussed" and this is utilised in the event of someone puncturing ... or Absalon dropping his post etc.

Remember that as the sport grows and we get a wider viewer network globally, not everyone watching will be totally familiar with tubular vs tubeless vs tubes .... or what on earth a dropper post is ...

So these are meant to be informative for the wider spectrum of viewers.

When we had the world cups here - I had to spend an hour or 2 with Rob making notes about the track etc for the broadcast.

We even did specific tv  track walk with Red Bull to set up viewing positions and discuss points on the track that could be important so that he was prepped for the broadcast.

The amount of work he and Bart / Claudio put into the broadcasts is insane - so to be honest I think that even though he makes the odd bugger up - they are pretty good commentators. I would like to see anyone else with a broader knowledge than them ... as at least they have all raced at world cup levels in respective disciplines so they know the ins and outs of the world cups.

Also - if you compare them to Supercyclings hosts and their lack of knowledge about anything other than marathon ... IMO Rob and them do a fantastic job

Admins, time to lock this bad boy.

it is VERY unique, you must admit.

I reckon it's because he has such long legs, and a shorter torso. His front end is also just so darn low, so the angle is necessary to relieve pressure on the gonads. Also provides a platform to push back on during seated climbing.

Very unorthodox, but it must be like that for a reason. MADA3400 here also has an angle like that, cos his seat is so damn high relative to his bars.

It works well for climbing, especially on a longer travel bike with higher bars. You should try it.

I beg to differ. I have been following some super bike racing and the TDF of late. The commentators in those disciplines are highways ahead of Rob and Bart. The humour is actually funny and their inside knowledge is vast. Bart and Rob come across like boy scouts thrown in at the deep end. Arguably XC racing is about as thrilling as watching paint dry, but I think it could be so much more betterer (to invent some English like Bart did last time out) if the commentators simply had the skills behind the mike.

I don't mind Warner - despite the phone theft incident in 2009 and the gold cart thing in 2013... - but that series of vids he did covering himself in mud while in a bikini still disturbs me...

I'm still wondering why Bart has that pornstar ponytail. Was it ever considered cool in the peleton?

during the day it's a pony tail, at night he makes it a man-bun for the local club scenes.

Maybe we should get Hugh Bladen and Trevor Quirk in to remind everyone what a truly annoying commentator is.

Then we'll see if anyone still wants to have a go.

" betterer" .... hahahaha

Bart has some classic bad english moments, but he is Dutch so its not his first language.

Ya look - i agree they could be better. But I just think they do a decent job and its nice that we have guys who have won events before and are involved in the sport doing the commentating - rather than some polluka who doesnt know anything and just makes stuff up - I have seen that at many events with live commentators.

Remember Quirk the Jerk getting bust for drunk driving. And Bladen had had a skinful when he fell out that hotel window!

well he had it in 1996 when he won the inaugural Olympics in Atlanta ... so maybe he has kept it as a reminder ....
