Very interesting read, dropped a bomb shell "Now Peter has signed with Bora for €6 million". I love the honesty of the man. He calls a spade a shovel and doesn't care what people think of him. I really think he has the sports best interest at heart.

Some don't like his brashness but you can't deny some of his ideas are good. The current model of teams funding is the same it was 40 years ago. Sticker on shirt, sticker on bike, cash please.

Smaller teams develop riders and as soon as they get noticed along comes a bigger team and that's it. There isn't any sustainability at the moment.

There should be a transfer market type set up to help smaller teams, teams should get a % of TV rights because the more healthy long term teams the better the sport and the better people can plan for the next 5 years not until the end of that 2 year deal.

The unfortunate fact is ASO and UCI are in a long term arm wrestle and ASO flatly refuses to transform anything because it would reduce their immediate profit.

You need better business men to look at along term strategy and reshape the model so it can benefit all and create a solid future rather than lurching from one year to the next.

I dig Oleg. I think he is good for the sport, he challenges the governing bodies which I think is good. I follow him on both facebook and twitter and although I only understand half his posts(because the others are in russian) he is entertaining. He also seems to look after his riders, flying them to one of his hotels, La Datcha in his priavte jet for pre season training. He also had a live feed for a few minutes when the team celebrated the win when Peter broke away with Froome and their team mates in the cross wind, He gave Bodnar a 5 litre bottle of what he called "very expensive wine".

Not really a fan, but have to admit that was a pretty good take-down of Vaughters...

Jonathan Vaughters suggested to Cyclingnews that I’m a victim of my own sword by paying Peter Sagan €4.5 million and so inflating the rider market but I think people should know that I offered him Sagan’s contract for 2017 but he turned me down saying it was way too expensive. Now Peter has signed with Bora for €6 million. So he should eat humble pie now because he doesn’t understand the importance of a rider like Peter. It would have been great for the Cannondale brand too but that proves that former riders don’t make good team managers. I know that Vaughters did a Masters or something but it clearly didn’t help him. There’s a reason why Dave Brailsford looks outside of the sport to find his marginal gains. He hires former riders but only as directeur sportif. He lets them drive the team car but keeps them out of the boardroom.

There is a reason why Oleg is a super successful businessman.

It's strange how "struggling" sport administrators sort of refuse to take advise from businessmen considering that most if not all sporting codes are now professional.

Just because they excelled in a sport doesn't mean they will necessary make good coaches or administrators.
