Brickleberry Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Looking for opinions on the best budget wheelset avaliable at 5k or less. Looking for strong and durable, for a 88kg rider. Sealed bearings are preferential, and the budget can't get bigger so hand builts or higher level wheels are not an option.
LOOK695 Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Maybe this?https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/164968-fulcrum-racing-quattro-35mm-brand-new/

Fat Boab Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I've had a pair of those quattros for about 3 years. Back then I was 95kgs. They're bomb-proof. Still as true today as on day 1!
Buchu Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 I have got a set of 30mm profile , Token C30a wheels available for R4000. It is currently for R4800 in the classifieds. It weighs 1.54kg with skewers. It is in excellent condition. You can give Francois at Manic Cycles Worcester a call If you are interested. I bought it there and it is there now. Those wheels are going for almost R10000 now if you buy them new.
Edge_Design Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/203636-complete-wheelsets/ Just putting it out there - 1 set of XLR200's left. You won't get anything close to them for 3 times that price.

T-Bob Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 American Classic Victory 30's. On sale at Evo Bikes for less than 5K. AMC know aluminium very well and these are 118kg rider limit and nice and wide internally (18.2mm) so you get a better tyre profile. Plus AMC hubs are all time in the fast rolling stakes. 1592gm a pair, no weird spokes if you need to source them, out of the box set up as tubeless with sealed inners but can run with happily with inner tubes. Come supplied with tubeless valves as well. http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-road/american-classic-victory-30-tubeless-clincher-wheelset.html
David Marshall Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I would go for the Edge wheels and next would look at Mavic Aksiums. You get two sets of sealed bearing wheels and still within budget!
Edge_Design Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 That weight scares me a lot. At 88kgs I'm nervous to go under 1500g. Fair comment - I'm normally between 85 and 90kg's and haven't had a problem myself. You would be covered by the warranty though if that helps your confidence.
