I personally beleive that the lawmakers in SA need to change the law wrt Hit and Run.  The penalties for Hit and Run must be harsher than Drunken Driving and attempted murder.  Currently it is a slap on the writst if you are caught.  So if you are drunk it is better to run away and hand yourself over when you are sober.  Big problem that.

What people remember from an accident is often skewed.

There is no double cab with a bumper like that as far as I know

I agree. Leaving the scene of an accident you were involved in, should carry a very harsh penalty.

Having looked at the pics, that bumper is way too small for a 4x4 but matches the Etios very closely!

I've seen suggestions that it could be a Fortuner but the closest I see matching that style in the older model is still way off from the pics posted. OK, but an Etios is very different from a double cab.  Could the rider have been so wrong about what car hit him.  Unless maybe there was a double cab around, but that it was not the double cab that hit him. In that case, the actual scene evidence takes precedence.

Just checked pics on the net for Etios.  The bumper light is too low on the Etios. What do you think?

 

EDIT:  No, I am looking at it from the wrong side.  Etios could be the one.
