In the last two weeks ive noticed 3 bikes in the hub classifeds(all TREK's because that's what im looking for) stating a year of manufacture which is incorrect. On the Trek website you can go onto bike archive and it shows you every bike made for each year, with a picture.

It seems to me that not only individuals but bike shops are advertising 2014 bikes when they are actually 2012. And one today saying its a 2016 but its actually a 2014.

Purchasing a bike from a shop in 2016 certainly doesnt mean that its a 2016 model bike, its old stock.

Anyone else finding this?

I have noticed this regularly...(more Specialized cuz I used to work in a concept store but same thing)...the amazing thing is when I have commented on the incorrect year - no malice intended, I get PM's stating that I should mind my own business and how dare I try to devalue the bike etc....

So now I just keep quiet and know that some poor soul is getting reamed...

I do the same thing when I notice it, but I never get PM'ed which is disappointing.  I haven't had a good online tussle with added death threats in ages...

False advertising really grates my knut

dammit, I was hoping to find a photo of a hot chick on a lead motorbike...

but have to say getting the year wrong is dumb, if you don't know, don't post a year, otherwise take the time to check the year model...

I can handle one or 2 years here and there, but any more than that becomes annoying.

There was a guy sellling a 2005 Trek, claiming it was a 2013 model. He wanted R9k for it. Back in 2005, it was only priced at R5 500 at Sportsman's Wharehouse.

When I asked him about it, he told me that he bought it at Cajees for R13 500 and they told him it was a 2013 model.

So, in their defence, many people just don't know. They think bikes work like cars, when the model year is dependent on the year it was bought

People try pull the piss all the time . Most ads I see for bikes are a year "newer " than reality. I had a 2012 Merida a few year back, there is the exact same bike for sale now as a 2014. I believe you should comment , and if the oak wants to get clever over PM screen shot it and shame him publicly .
