Yes  Going up is fun. Going down is the shitty bit. I'm like a Kite

share a tow rope with the heavy weights, Hoffman can help you going down

I share your excitement... my first one and cannot wait...

I'm also super keen for this one. Making the mission down for the first time and love what I've read/heard so far. Looking for a nice hard ride but also wana try and enjoy it somewhat so not putting too much pressure on myself.

Oh crap! I'm pretty sure someone told me you could catch some sort of shuttle back to the start once you have finished but now I cant find any info on the website - only info about "bicycle transport" which seems to be all closed (but not really applicable because we wouldn't just need bicycle transport but we would need to transport ourselves too).

Basically, we're staying just outside PMB and so we can get ourselves to the start but then would need some way to get back to the start after the race. What are our options? Have I missed the boat?

You have missed the boat unfortunately.

The shuttle run's from Durban to PMB before the race not afterwards so you would have to be staying in Durbs.

Mail them and ask if they know about a service like that, even if not official? You don't want an unplanned Double Century.

I'm using the transport from DBN to PMB before the race.

They still have spots open. You will need to mail them and ask, or show up at 9am at registration on Saturday to book your spot.

It has arrived...registration starting today at 13:00

a few tips i got last year as a first timer...

make a list so that you dont forget anything...shoes socks helmet...racetech chip etc

at the start be careful of the island in the middle of the road...people ride into it or the pedal hits it and causes a minor bunch up...

take it easy up fox hill

watch out for potholes and cat eyes

ride at your own pace dont try keep up with a bunch if you are not at their level yet.

have a good meal the night before

make sure you keep your water bottles full...lots of people ran out of water last year on the climb to the hillcrest hospital...and the watering hole is only after hillcrest...with 2 nasty  climbs just before it.

dont get despondent when the single speed ice cream bikes come past you while trying to get through inchanga/drummond hills...

if you feel like you just cant carry on as i did at 70 km last year...rest as long as you need to... then get back on and keep going.

try to have fun and socialise with others...it helps take your mind off the pain...some people are going to be out there for a long time.

easy gears up the hills

for the small climbs go into a harder gear and stand a bit to allow some circulation and relief for the crutch.

get up a little earlier and make sure you go to the toilet... dont get ther etooo early...it is hard to find a toilet at the start...if you like me you gona want to pee 10 times before the start.

dont stress it all down hill from PMB...NOT...there are a lot of hills.

Looks like we're expecting a bit of rain . Not so sure how I feel about bunch racing on a wet (downhill ;)) route. Might have to solo TT this one.

just checked Windguru again and weather is looking good between PMB and Hillcrest for the morning. The wind will start picking up later in the morning as you head pass Westville and into Durban.

I have a HUGE favour to ask. If there is anyone that is planning to be at race registration at 9am on Saturday, is there any chance you can please try to book me two seats on one of the buses to get back to the start? I have filled out the forms and made payment now all I need is to be there to hand in the forms at 9am (on a first come-first serve basis) but I'm only leaving Pretoria on Saturday morning so this is simply not possible for me. So I could send you the completed forms and proof of payment and then I imagine you would just need to hand it in for me at registration in order to secure my spot. If anyone would be willing to assist I would be most grateful.

I would have said yes but have no idea what my plans are yet as I have some mates down from Cpt and will have to get them sorted out and pick up bikes etc etc.

Is it only saturday or can it be done earlier ?

Looks like there'll be a pretty decent tailwind for that final sprint...  :D
