And I apologise for bringing up Monty Python.

"I am very sorry. In fact I am incredibly sorry. No - really - I am very sorry. Very, very

sorry. I fact I am so f^&*ing sorry..."*

*AFAIK I know this was John Cleese. Can anyone remember which skit? I think

it was about some obscenity on a radio program...

Faith is the denial of reason

Paradox defined. The existence of God depends upon faith, that faith depends upon the lack of proof, the lack of proof is what creates the need for faith and on and on the cycle of idiocy goes like Robert Mugabe standing between two mirrors.

Proof? Atheists believe in the world, in what you can see. You want proof of the world, I'll show you it.

Now show me God.

Show me a flying man, a talking donkey, a navel-less man, a flying chariot, a talking, burning bush, a speaking snake. Explain how enough water to cover the top of Everest can appear from nowhere and then disappear.

Explain a virgin birth, Explain walking on water. Raise me a dead man. Show me someone who can heal leprosy by touch. Show me how you can stop the sun in the sky,

Any of those will do. Proof of god would be so easy if it were real, but it's not which is why the religious venerate faith. Faith is the denial of reason; it's "don't bother me with facts, I know what's right"; it's ignorance in the truest sense of the word, "to ignore".

And that is exactly why faith will never go away. There are always things that cannot be explained, and mankind is a storytelling monkey that will always come up with a story which invites others to believe in it.

Now moderate the crap out of that.

Interesting comments Chrish.

I have read very recently a book on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. The researcher found a direct relationship between the severity of the epilepsy and religion. People who suffered more severe cases of the disease had a tendency to be more religious. People with less severe cases of the disease were less religious. the next steps in the research i to establish if atheists have any signs of temporal lobe epilepsy.

if this is the case then there ma be compelling proof that religion and the beliefs that go with it are a manifestation of the brain.

No that was an interesting read. Complicated, riveting but very interesting.

Here is something for religious Tolerance. I photographed this women at a Pagwha celebration I attended. ( Pagwha is the Hindu Holi Festival of colours)

She had not problem showing the Christian faith while embracing a Hindu festival

The thing with ChrisH's post is that it's difficult to dispute and as such constitutes an acid test for moderation.

Seriously, in my capacity as a pseudo intellectual, I would be crapping myself if I had to make a call on that post...

On what grounds do you say it's offensive, and to who? He touches on the most fundamental aspect of Christianity, but in a manner that can't be disputed... Faith is exactly as he describes it... But we all know that it constritutes sacrilege to deconstruct religion in this manner... The purists would bay for blood...

The only people who will berate me are those who disagree, and anyone who does that won't be arguing from a position of reason so I am not really too concerned. As for the point of it all (I assume you are talking about life), well there is no point Windbreaker, and that's the point.

I get annoyed when other peoples religious sensitivities are pushed down my throat and censorship is the end result. That's the first step down a very rocky road. I am happy to leave others on the forum alone when they push a religious agenda but I take umbrage when they don't show the same tolerance to 'non believers'.
