Ryder make a simple 9 function, wired, computer with larger display.....may even be aimed at those whose arms are getting shorter.

edit: http://www.rydercycling.co.za/ryder-products/computers-1

If you're thinking about night riding in freezing temperatures don't buy the cordless computer, they stop working when it really gets cold.......

Vredendal has got excellent training ground, howling winds, sandy stretches, tanneklap corrugations, while enjoying the beauty of the mountains and the vineyards, must say I'm enjoying myself again.....

Good tip that one didn"t think of the speedo and I don't use it normally. Good conditions for kit testing fresh snow this morning and temperatures to drop too -15 minus 20 next week maybe I should do some early morning commutes for kit testing.

Anybody doing race to Willowmore. I am looking forward to riding this stretch.

I'll be there  . Not particularly looking forward to the Ossewa Track (former) . Otherwise some of the most beautiful scenery on the whole trail imo.

The osseberg is the most beautifull stretch of the freedom trail. So regret not taking up the offer from a friend to camp out there in 2015

I have 2 pairs of Shimano XM9 Gor-Tex cycling boots Size 45 that have never been used that I would like to sell, I paid R2200 plus import duties for each pair and would just like to recoupe my money as I already have a pair.

These boots are much lighter and far more comfortable than the previous model and also seem far more durable.

Im happy to pack and post.

E-mail me if youre intrested: rcgccourse@telkomsa.net

And I will vouch for that! I used the exact same boots in RASA 2016, one of my better "investments" by far. I thought....boots?? riding across the country?......Worked like a charm! For the terrain you cover, especially to Rhodes, The Ladder and Stettynkloof to name a few, I am grateful I had them. Good ankle support!! and vibram soles...very flexible!

Which shoes do the experienced riders recommend?

Any of the shimano MT44 or similar range.

It is NOT a bike race where power transfer is important and 'pfft, I can ride the portages'...

In fact, there will likely be some days when you will push your bike up some gentle gradient gravel roads just because.
