Marnitz with the alternative line out of the valley this morning...

This is the route I thought Martin would have taken at night.

I think there was a restriction on it because of the rain/storm etc.

Would it be possible to go up there at night . Did not see anything that looked like a path going up there .

Is there a path anywhere in there?

No paths at all.

The logic about the route that Marnitz took is that there would be (or should be) less vegetation on top of the mountain. So whilst the initial climb is strenuous and taxing, you can traverse the route quicker once on top.

Tim James tried at night in 2015 without great succes. In 2015 the fastest time from Throuthaven to the line was either Theo Van dyk going up that line or Marnitz and Ivor going up the waterfall

Theo did a 9h15 on that route Marnitz under 10h up the waterfall and through the kloof a few of us went just under 11h

In 2016 Liehan went through in 9h30 on the classic trail(if my memory is right) he did just under eleven in 2015.

Side notes Theo had not ridden for a couple of days as he rejoined the trail after a break for Illness. Marnitz was backpedalling the whole way and spent some time taking pictures and hunting Leopard.

Myself was one of those just shy of 11h Wasted quite some time going down to the plane wreck should have at least gone under 10h30 on the classic route. Seeing at the progress the guys are making the firebreak is faster it seems unless you know the shortcut by heart like Theo does.

Really hope it does not turn into a highway !!

there'll never be enough feet going through each year to hold nature back!

Marnitz, kom in Marnitz.

Well done on your fastest ever time. seems like the big tyre* helped.

Amazing to see so many okes finish in a spurt, with some rain coming later today that was a nice move.
