Repaired carbon frames

There's been a host of carbon bikes or frames for sale lately that have been repaired and their prices are not much different to bikes without such damage.

It got me wondering, how many people here on the Hub would by a bike with a repaired or damaged carbon frame.

Personally I wouldn't buy one even if the repair was unnoticeable and was done by a reputable person. If I did there would have to be a massive discount.

I don't have a problem with repaired frames.  The reason that there is not much of a discount is that the repair cost is high.  I have serious reservations about repaired carbon wheels, which also appear on The Hub from time to time.

Depending on where/how the frame cracked, I can understand that I full repair could be done that will at least equal the original strength. I have to agree with David in that I don't see how that would be possible for rims.

But, having said that, I would not pay near 'normal' second hand prices

I probably wouldn't buy either - can't even decide whether to repair my cracked frame.

I would get a quote to repair and sell the frame as is with the quote and let the buyer do his own thing.  That way you haven't misrepresented at all.

One thing you need to consider is 60% of the time the repair area is now stronger than the whole frame ;)

I've also seen countless wheels repaired without ever having problems again.
