XC Full Face Helmets

I  certainly hope we are getting closer to the point where even the XC lids are full face, light weight and well vented.

It still just makes so much sense to me that this is the future .... if they can get the weight and ventilation right, why not!

Accidents happen, running out of skill happens, and dental bills are expensive, not to mention painfull!

So here is me hoping full face helmets can become the norm on mountain bikes.

I'm definately getting one soon.

Got quite badly concussed on my last fall so most likely one with MIPS but I'm holding out to see how the Leatt dbx3.0 looks when it comes out with those turbines.

I really want to hate that lid but it looks great. MUCH nicer than the hideous Bell.

They missed the lazer and the new switchblade. Then the met parachute, but thats not convertible

Uhmm they do mention both of those. On the second page. That Giro Switchblade is a pretty interesting design but I love the look of the Leatt!

I say all the above, but have not ridden a full face helmet yet .... but inside I know it is the right way to go!

It's not necessarily the right way for some events - unless they can do something about the cooling, there is the very real possibility that using one could lead to overheating and loss of concentration as a result - and then accidents will happen, and possibly other medical complications as well because of the difficulty of thermo regulating with one on - clearly 150k m of Epic stage in 30 deg plus will be super unpleasant with even a lightweight full face with the best ventilation possible today - what your neck will look like after 15 years of riding an extra 200g on you head is a good question - what it will feel like after said long stage will be something like a wet noodle - and less resistant to crash shock absorption.

Downhill, enduro, bmx and the like etc - for sure - full face is the way to go.

Agree with V12.

More people will use the convertible option for general riding around and enduro events, but XC, marathon and road riders will never go for it. Unless of course they introduce a lightweight solar powered aircon system for them :-)  How good does spandex and full face lid look?

The wet noodle feeling was experienced in the Transbaviaans with a normal helmet!

But I'll concede the full face helmet is very functional, like saddle and top tube bags.....

See lots of that in Morz. Throw in knee pads, elbow guards, Spanish speaking and a profound lack of riding ability and the picture is complete.

It doesn't stop them sending stuff that they REALLY shouldn't tho.

So for the general hack riding around on the weekend's trail ride it would work.....especially those with the detachable chin guards .... it's not like you racing, so you can slap it on at the top of a long climb.

Ultra distance events, yes I agree it would be over kill.

XCO, where it is full tilt racing on more and more tech trails might still be a good option. Should the ventilation and weight be addressed in a satisfactory manner.

Not long ago most riders were saying they would never ride with a dropper post as they don't see the need for it .... now XCO boys and girls are starting to use them too.

Let's see where it goes to in the future.....with #ENDURO rocking the way it is, this could be the catalyst to developing a helmet light enough, and with sufficient ventilation to break into the XCO market.

That poor lady racing on the WC XCO this year (For the life of me I can't remember her name now) would have done well with a FF lid during some of the races vs sporting nice shinners afterwards.
