Just reviving an old thread. On Saturday 14/12,I managed to destroy my MCL and ACL and my meniscus is mush apparently. Feeling very sorry for myself when hearing the healing times.  Have to wait for the MCL to heal itself before the doc will do the ACL replacement.

I feel for you, I did mine twice 20 years ago wakeboarding. The trick is to make sure you don't push it when you healing, my recovery was 9 months and i have 0 issues today. My Dr and Physio were amazing and I suggest you do your research and pick the right doctor, I used Dr Firer at Linksfield and Suzanne Rogers at Offnichol. Both were amazing and to this day Suzanne is the only Physio I let work on my knee. Good luck!

Thanks, When I read 9 months I want to cry! I know I mustn't rush it but man that seems like a lifetime at this point and its only been 5 days. Its 4 weeks till I get the ACL surgery only if the MCL repairs.

I have had three complete ruptures of my right ACL, and 1 full tear and 2 partial tears of my meniscus. First thing Ive learnt is that NOTHING is as strong as the real thing, so look after your knees, and every subsequent injury after that rehab time is considerably longer. You are capable of function again, you have to be smart and do the rehab!

Ive changed to clipless, I dont wanna bail on my bike and still be cleated in so riding flats was a top priority for me. I always ride with a custom CTi brace from ossur, I put a longish neopreen knee cover underneath it to help with chaff and I have full confidence that my knee will be ok should I bail.

I use the CTi for everything when I am in an unpredictable environment. Currently its servicing my biking, surfing and kitesurfing pastimes. I even take it to the obligatory paintball at bachelor parties.

Thanks. Through this process I found that my Asterisk knee brace I was wearing was sized too big. Whether my injury could have been prevented we will never know!  Been watching some videos of the surgery and the growth process one its done. It looks like once the graft has taken the new ACL is just as strong as the original one but yeah I will always be worried about the knee in the future. My physio has also warned me that if I don't do the rehab properly and try and do certain activities too soon may result in a weakening of the joint so I guess I need to learn to be patient and let the healing take it course. Right now I can't wait for the surgery on the 17th as the meniscus is causing the most pain at the moment.

Not ACL but I had my PCL reconstructed which is much worse than ACL or so I've been told. Surgery done in July back on the bike by December by March I missed out on a Sub 3 Argus cycle Tour by +-60 seconds. Something worth exploring is Prehab I only found this out after surgery by then too late. This should reduce the recovery time considerably, not sure if it is relevant in your case but ask your physiotherapist. Something to Note I've done extensive rehab physiotherapy 2-3 times per week. Once they were happy i was released into the care of a Biokineticist for further rehab, also initially twice a week 4 times a month, this is the only reason i was back in action so soon. Good Luck
