Hi Guys,

My father-in-law is building up a new Pyga Stage and I would just like to get a bit of information with regards to any alternative part options. A bit of info, it must be 2x11 and rider weight of 104kg.

So this is the build plan:

Frame - Pyga Stage

Wheels - Flow Ex on Hope

Fork - SID/Pike/Reba, and other 120mm option?

Rear - Monarch

Groupset - XT 2x11

Brakes - Guide Ultimates

Seatpost - Reverb Stealth

If you were to change anything what would it be?

Thanks

Hi there

I would change the breaks to XT, make them iSpec 2, will make for a nice clean handlebar.

Fork, with his weight maybe think about a 34 mm stencil, that def be the Pike, but think the Pike is 140mm ?

Hubs: Hope Pro 4's.

He is adamant on the Guides and there is no changing his mind on that.

Hubs will definatly be Hope pro 4's, I believe that the RCT3 comes in 120mm, but I may be mistaken.

Thanks for the advice

Hi

hmmm, I would def opted for the XT brakes above anything else, especially if the rest of the groupset is XT.

Maybe then change the groupset to XO and use Matchmaker's. The bike got to nice and clean lines not to keep the handlebar clean.

Also look at getting the single lever dual switch for the fork and shock lockout in one.

Ye, The Pike Revelation RCT3 => 120mm... correct

Change the  ultimate's to RS - the tool free adjustment is a very low use item - set and forget basically, and there is a big cost penalty for the ultimate's (which I run myself, but in retrospect seems like a waste of cash.)

The stage is quite a racy bike with a bit of trail thrown in.

The 2 x 11 suggests a gravel grinder route while the pike, dropper and flows suggest trail use.

Whats the bikes intended purpose? As a middle ground I think a set of wide lightnings and a 120mm revelation would suite the bike more.

I'd think the Pike is a option because of the rider weight, the extra 2mm stancin width give it stability.

Same for the Stats Flow's => Strength.

he curve ball is the dropper.

if he is looking for a Trial bike then same bits, but rather a 130-140mm Pike and dropper on a Stage Max...

Yes, but XO does not come in 2x11.

The Pike does come in 120mm. I would suggest going for the Pike if money is no object. But I would only do the Pike thing if your father-in-law is a technically skilled rider, as the Pike would just be overkill if he is not going to push the bike to it's limit

The dropper is something he wants as an extra. The flows were picked for his weight, would the Ac's handle his weight? The fork is the issue at the moment.

Huh WHAT?!

Absolute bollocks. Yes, the 35mm stanchions will be more resilient than the 32's of the revelation / Reba (I would not go Sid due to his weight) but it has sweet FA to do with his skill level. It's just the logical choice.

I think the AC's have a 100kg rider weight limit

Those are my recommendations.

Guide Ultimates aren't worth the cash difference over the RS, and the RS is a brilliant brakeset, as V12 says. You can get a set of Problemsolvers to allow a single clamp setup on the bars, but tbh 2 clamps aren't a deal breaker.

not the end of the world, but remember on one side he will actually have 3 (if he gets the dual lockout option, if not then he will have fork also one side and shock the other, plus the switch for the dropper)

actually,

if he runs SRAM brakes, XT shifters, then he still heading for 3 clamps per side.

Left

SRAM Brakes

Shimano Shifter

SRAM Combined shock/fork

Right

SRAM Brackes

Shimano Shifter

SRAM Dropper

What would you pair the Pike with on the rear?
