Sunrace 11-42 cassette with XT 10spd shifter - Problems

I went into the specialized store over the weekend and saw a bike there with a 1 x 10 setup. It had 32t chainring with a 11-42 cassette using sram gx RD and sram shifters.

I cant help but feel like i need to change to the same RD and buy a Sram shifter and get rid of the Shimano stuff currently on my bike.

The way I see it, if that bike comes built with those components and it works perfectly then if i change to the same components it will work the way I want.

The cassette on the bike wasnt a sunrace cassette though but rather a special made specialised one.

As long as you don't mix SRAM shifters with Shimano RD or vice versa the gears will index the same. SRAM and Shimano Shifters and RD have different leverage ratios but otherwise the chain length and gear spacing are the same on their 10spd systems.

Many riders are running mixed combinations successfully. Chainline is critical to 1x installations. Start there.

I had endless issues over the weekend...Indexing was perfect in the small cogs at the back and krap towards the 42...Problem...Bent derailleur hanger.

If that little bugger is out of whack there's 4kol you can do to get the gears lekker.

So check that out as well then shifting will be a breeze.

I'm using the same cassette, only the 11 speed version and XT long cage rear mech as well (on 2 bikes).

Perfect so far until I bent the hanger.

They will of course tell you that everything on a Spaz is special....

I've just replaced my Sram 11-36 + 42t Woltooth GC with the Sunrace 11-42 10 speed. The Sunrace performs great. (I have a Sram X9 RD)

Keep on tweaking until you get solid shifting

Hi there , not to throw a spammer into the works but, there is a small spacer found Behind the cassette in the insert holding it all together! Should that be fitted on the hub before installing the hub for clearance purposes as I was told yes and it's only removed when you go 1x11?

Trying to do a 1x10 conversion but am really struggling with the rear derailleur. New xt 10s long cage with sunrace 11-40 cassette.

I cannot get enough clearance between the derailleur and the cassette to allow the chain to shift up or down. See the pic below.

Have tried tightening B screw but makes no difference. Any ideas?

@OP:

Really strange. My setup is if not identical than yours and my shifting is butter smooth, heck my friend says he shifting is worse than mine (we both ride the same bike and 1 x).

I have 32T narrow and 11-42T Sunrace cassette and went to install it and no gear setting was required.

Hope you get it sorted! :)

EDIT: I was coming from an 11-36 and I did not buy a new chain as my current one is in a very good condition according to my chain tool.

I had similar setup issues, only to find that I needed this little component.....

All my troubles are sorted, shifting is good, and I still use a clutchless RD.

I think this is my problem. The tab on the dogbone is much bigger than on the previous derailleur. This is causing the derailleur to sit higher on the hanger.

The lower dogbone is from the new 10s derailleur.

It's not the B screw - there is almost 10mm clearance between the jockey and the 40t cog. Putting a spacer between the B screw and the hanger just makes the chain get even more trapped against the derailleur.

Have you checked chain length? I just put 2 extra links on to handle the 6 extra teeth on the 42t cog, and it works beautifully
