Pure Savage Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Can't really be called marginal gains if others are doing it. And to think others don't have bike skills or worry about tyre pressure is extremely naive. This is more worrying though:Very worrying, Astana was slacking, did not get the stage win. I think we should take into account that the majority of riders falling were from dryer regions, Spain, Australia etc, and the winner grew up in Wales, known for their long hot summers. Sometimes the conditions just are in your favour.
Caerus Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Just arrived back this morning from Dusseldorf having watched the 1st stage. What a truly amazing day and sporting event to watch. What an incredible atmosphere along the route and within the city Definitely one tick off the old bucket list
Fat Boab Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Separation point further round the arm/body to reduce the turbulent wake, I think. Same as the dimples on a golf ball. sphere-flow-comparison.jpg From a dim and distant memory, the boundary layer Reynolds number, on a sphere of 100mm diameter (generous for the arm of a cyclist!), and an air velocity of 40 kph, will be +/-1000. Well below the expected laminar-turbulent transition of 100,000, so we would expect dimples, rough patches, hair on the correct part of your leg, to trip the boundary layer to turbulent thereby reducing form drag! Boom!! (I'll be here all week) I need to lie down now........
Caerus Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 I walked the race/ track and it was extremely wet on the day. I'm surprised not more riders came off, some of those corners were fairly hectic.Very worrying, Astana was slacking, did not get the stage win. Pure Savage Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 I just wish that the less prepared and lazy teams would stop trying to find excuses before we even hit the mountains.
gummibear Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Our spot for today and my direction board that's going home with us [emoji3][emoji15][emoji6]

The cameras on the moto's do not do it justice.
Long Wheel Base Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 DSTV mobile app for the win. WALKA broken so this must suffice.177.2km to go. break have 1m44s
Pure Savage Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Instead of a like button, I wish there was a jealous button. Would click that multiple times.

German rain is different, and the Swiss speak German, and BMC is Swiss, therefore those that have no German connection all fell over in the German rain?
Caerus Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 100%. It was the same when I walked the F1 track in Monte Carlo, unless you seeing it live you can't get a real feel for what they are experiencing. I take my hat off to all the riders that day.Watching the spectators videos do you then only realize just how fast the guys were flying in the wet. The cameras on the moto's do not do it justice.

Velouria Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Bell Pottinger is that you? Yup (well spotted) - we've been tasked with trying to make cycling more believable now...

I was talking about stage 1 where 2 spaniards went home. I don't think Gee grew up and learnt to ride in Monaco. BMC caused the above crash and knocked over the rest of the okes. You can see that team sky have been training their riders on how to fall, look at both Froome and Thomas perfectly braced and in the same position. Thats a real marginal gain that AG2R, BMC and FDJ have missed.
