In the words of Mat Schmich, made famous by Baz Luhrmann

"Ladies and gentlemen of the class of 2007, wear sunscreen

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it

The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists

Whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable

Than my own meandering experience, I will dispense this advice now"

Flippen heck was really angry at myself that I put it everywhere else, but forgot my legs. And to make me more angry, I realised I left the tube at home as well half way through the ride when I noticed my legs burning!! Mrs Slowbee was NOT impressed.

One of the things I keep in my toolkit is a tiny set of sunscreen.... that little blue tube - it has saved me before...

Nice ride! I've always been keen to do it, but am worried about that stretch over Sir Lowry's. Isn't cycling technically not allowed there seeing it is a National Highway?

While cycling on highways is illegal, it's legal to cycle on national road that is not highway. The N2 stops being highway in Somerset West as indicated by this sign: https://www.google.co.za/maps/@-34.0821213,18.8267574,3a,75y,140.6h,67.14t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sD_x9MW5SA1IkO7QaiuVefA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

Not National road there.  (no blue signs)

We did the ride in December, started in Stellenbosch and went around Sir Lowry pass, nearly called it quits on Sir Lowry's because of the hectic wind, was blown off the road twice.

Luckily we decided to go on and what an awesome ride it was

When the winds rule, that course is eina

Beautiful though once off the N2

Green signs = not national road

Sir Lowery's isn't that bad, more likely to get in trouble out to stellies.

Grabouw sticking to the N2 should be safe unless there is a Strike.

I have ridden Old Sir Lowery link to N2, (hooks up to horse shoe bend, closed to cars) this one is less nice, lot of litter and illegal dumping.
