long regional sand roads

How long is long? 50kms. 100kms? Are you talking gravel grinder type rides or what sort of rides?  Depends what you are riding though - MTB or CX/Gravel grinder type bikes?

You can look on Strava and really get an idea of where all the interconnecting roads are. Once you are out of the city scape you can go for a long way on dirt roads.

For example If you interconnect some of the roads from the back of Broadacres you can do miles out of the back of Lanseria.

Google maps is also your friend once overlaid with Strava or Garmin Connect.

Be careful of farmers BTW - they have bulls and no sense of humour...

Railway line service roads.

Next to every railway line is a road, most of the time a jeep track, used by the railways to service the infrastructure. Find a railway line and you find an empty sand road/jeep track.

I used to ride one to Pretoria. Take the R 25 to Bapsfontein. I parked my car at a company and rode the 2 odd K's to the service road.
