Hi all,

I am very keen to partake in this event in December. Having read up on the rules of Audax a bit, I get the feeling that it's a race within a race. The official rules state that this is not a race, and that the "maximum" allowed average speed is 30km/h. Why would you want to go faster? How do they penalise you if you arrive at an average of 32km/h?

Any tips for my first Audax?

Thanks all hyper milers!

It is NOT a race, it is a ride. This particular one is a memorial ride for  Ian Kernick who "ran" Cresta Wheelers for many years and tragically passed away some years back.

Two checkpoints where you sign in is how it is controlled.

No results, just a grin on your face as reward. Take a great attitude, food, and money for more food. Leave the racer mentality at home.

Any preparation tips for distance rides? Ive done the races (amashova, 947 etc) and trying to figure out if I should train any differently this week for added distance/endurance

Too little, too late :)

There's no rush, so don't go flat-out up every hill.  Prepare to stop and refill water bottles.  Put on sunscreen.  Take a spare tube and a sense of humour.

Thank you to the two gentleman from Cresta Wheelers who stopped to help me change a double puncture after hitting a hole.

Great day out.

great ride - kudos to Cresta.

Question - was there a direction missing at the end (n14 for 22K....seems they neglected to mention to stay straight at the big junction and head towards Roodeport)
