Pikey Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 I've done it once before in August when I came up. Too late for any gains, but its a good place to ride and better than being on the roads in Midrand or at the Cradle.agreed if the cradle is as busy as what everyone says it is. Never ride there so don't know. We are about same pace, maybe an EASY ride at sbr is not out of the question?
GaryvdM Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 If your goal is to work on group riding skills, the flatter the terrain the better. When the terrain is hilly, the following aspects work against you in keeping you group in close formation:Differences in power to weight ratio have a greater effect on difference in speed on uphills.Slower speeds on uphills reduce drafting effects. If your group is not together at the top of a hill, faster riders have to stop and wait, and then when you get going aging, you have to get your group formation back together. So for these reasons, SBR is probably the worst place to go (assuming your goal is to work on group riding skills.)

GaryvdM Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I know I'm reiterating what others have said, but I think it worth reiterating. And it is based on the understanding of the following premise: you want to learn how to effectively ride in a group. If you goal is something else, you can ignore what I'm saying. Putting a group together for this years 94.7 is unlikely to be successful. Rather target races that:Give the group time to do more group rides before racing together.Target smaller races where it will be easier to find each other both at the start, and during the race.Target flatter races. Also - think about joining a club and riding with a club. This will give you lots of group riding experience.
mikeking Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 one of the problems with the I-group last year was that it was too big to effectively control. Would it not be better just to identify ourselves as hubbers wanting to work together in our respective starting groups? The cable tie with the sticker can work, and by identifying yourself you are committing to working together with whoever(ie, no constant wheelsucking) to achieve more than you would have achieved alone.
Patchelicious Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I would suggest that you ride out by the Circus in the South or the Cradle. Both places have flat options and lekker coffee/breakfast stops Let me know when you guys go.... Wouldnt mind tagging along.
Spoke101 Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I will be hanging on the back of the Elites or mixing it up at the front of A batch at 94.7 this year. Give me a shout if you in the same boat and fancy a chat about tactics or just a chin wag.

Maybe the TheBikeHub should do a special offer on BikeHub shirts for those who want to work together and give them marketing exposure in return Think the issue about the I-Team last year wasnt the size of the I-Team itself, but rather the size of the IL group and all the other groups. People got lost in the crowds.

There is some good long flats out his way. And a lot of it has decent hard shoulders . Happy to explore the cradle as well . I agree I think the best we can hope for this year is if hubbers in the same batch want to try and help each other . I'm in E let me if you keen .pm me and we can se if anything works from there.

Otherwise we just get Gerald to organise some of that wind from Sunday.

A new year...new luck?
