It helps to have a LBS with a coffee shop and overseas mags to read while enjoying a cuppa and a muffin. Big%20smile

Bicycling is a classier publication, but with too many adverts, useless sections (like the Style column), and too much US content. Ride is a chaotic mix of articles with too much of the editor's own (often scathing) opinion. In my experience, Ride's subscription department is way more disorganised than Bicycling's. But Ride takes me longer to read and has more local content, so it would get my vote (just). I far prefer the international mags, especially for their critical product reviews, but on the local front, I think Mountain Biker Magazine is great (and wish it came out more often).

Racechick I find the articles repetitive and you can bet that every year they cover training for Argus' date=' 94.7 etc but then i suppose that caters for the newbies to the sport that have not seen them yet. [/quote']

A cycling mag WILL be repetitive!!!!! Race calender is fixed from year to year with very lttle changes, what more does a bike have than a chain, brakes and derraileurs that the DIY can fix himself????? Only variable is the personal interviews. Not much more "revolutionary" can be added. You find it even on the Hub where certain things are discussed ad nauseum. That is why a topic with religion attracts so many views and posts and causes Hubber, Moderators AND Admin to froth at the mouth!!!!!!!

I bought MBUK (Mountain Biking UK) form time to time in Lagos. Hours of fun reading and even they had the same articles over and over sometimes.

True BigH hence me only buying them when i see something which interests me than paying for something that i've read before. I used to collect the maintenance articles but bought some DVD's that covers this.

Neither.

What Mountain Bike is the best

and MBR (Mountain Bike Rider)

Thats also a top mag.I buy what I can at airports when passing through or just scale WMB from my buddy

WMB bike reviews are brilliant.I was fortunate enough to have the product tests on the Santa Cruz Superlight and The Scott Scale 40 which convinced me to buy them for myself and my son respectively

Buy Ride if i see something interesting' date=' subscribe to Bicycling but wont be renewing it when it expires as i get it long after the shops PLUS they always offer incentives for new subsribers but diddly squat for those renewing theirs.

so complain - i did. I ended up getting one of their sh!tty incentives. but at least i got something from complaining. been a subscriber since the start, and have complained on a couple of occasions. it works!!!

Like I said before when this topic was covered, I'm glad that cycling is big enough locally that it can support 3 or 4 local publications.

Internationaly I've always liked Bike and MBUK, MBA and MBI were my intitial reads but MBI went south whilst I lost interest in MBA after Zapata Espinoza left.

Our local publications could be doing more, especially in terms well balanced content, such the overall standard of layout, writing and photography. Yet it's getting there through the growth of the sport and the dedication of the people who run these mags.

They also have to determine what product format to put out based on the majority response to research, unfortunately the niche market seems to small to really cater to with a local variation of something like Bike for example.
