The Munga, some after thoughts.

I feel you guys are missing the ethos a bit...

My opinion is that this race is about "self discovery" and riding because you love it. Munga isn't Epic - it isn't about TVs and Pros and public glory - it's about riders pushing themselves to the limit for the satisfaction of finishing.

My 2c anyway. I could be way off the mark!

Agreed...... But

I still believe more effort can be done with the finish!

I Know, it is long and drawn out...... but damn. At least finish in the shade or have a few chairs and a Gazebo handy. After the trek, no matter where you finish. You want to plonk you ass or body down and chill for a few minutes.

During the day a few wet towels would be good and at night a blanket or similar.

Apparently the food stops were great, but....

it is what it is .. maybe they don't want the media hype? Way too many frigging VIP tents at events these days!

Good point yes.

Maybe I got the vision wrong but I was thinking about the first launch as the ultimate goal, a race on silly scale with super human athletes from across the disciplines  doing something most of us are not sure we could even complete let alone win.

There is clearly something magical about this event that has caught all our imagination. Its not that I think there should be pros and more prize money on line, its that I think these every day warriors could have their journeys captured and presented to us adding more to the above mentioned magic of the event and to give us motivation to possibly think we might be able to do something as silly.

But I guess that may detract from its rawness for some people.

Some perspective from one of the riders.

Although spectators would like to see eye candy in the form of a spectacular finish area ...

I think the answer to the finish area would need opinions from the cyclists in the munga ...

Look they only ride 1100 km If you wan't a blanket and a pizza you will have to do the freedom challenge It starts a bit further away and the terrain is rougher. They actually let you keep the blanket.

There need to be some difference.

The finish didn't bother me.. What did bother me was not knowing what was happening right at the end with the leaders. And a simple Twitter feed being updated regularly could have answered a lot of questions ask the way through. All the rv and wp's could feed information to this one chap with a phone and bobs your uncle. Finally... Something as trivial as Facebook live at the finish for when each Finisher comes in would be fantastic... And we would know when they are due to come in because the Twitter feed would let us know

Yes that was a let down.

They should really think of getting someone in those areas where the tracker goes MIA to give running commentary, not just for us but for the riders loved ones

If signal is too bad for social media send sms to someone at the finish and they can run the social media.

if you want to see what "self discovery" "nutter" and zero fanfair at the finish looks like; go have a look at the Barkley Marathon.

Agree with Eldron, doubt the guys and insanely fast girl(s) (here's talking  too you Jeannie) enter this for fan fair and ticker tape parade.

Yip they could likely make it a more social jovial finish.

Those bells and whistles costs money, lots of money; then the catch 22 starts; we need more sponsors to pay for aforementioned; we start cutting corners on everything we can to make 35 cents go to the race and 65 cents to broadcasting and entertainment..... and so it goes till everyone realises an event like this wont be the Epic; nor is it aiming for it. I think.

Not talking about to keep, just if it is hot some shade and if it is cold something warm.

But OK for all you hard core guys, probably best to fall off your bike and just lay in the thorns. Let's see next year.
