Ok' date=' I couldn't wait long enough to send an email. So phoned Caxton directly and got hold of the editor for the Chronicle (Kennedy)

He was extremely pleasant and helpful and noted my concerns, took my details and has instructed the reporter to refile the story. Apparently he's been inudated with riders calls protesting the article.

The number to call is 011 293 6068, option 3 then wait for the switchboard wher they'll transfer your call.

Keep it tidy people, abuse and bad language will NOT help.

From reading the article I'm also extremely tempted to find out Vincent Earp's standing. I cannot abide cheap politics, as this is how I interpet his actions and comments here.

It's being handled already.  We have already spoken with the councilor' date=' city parks, metro police and Caxton.  The problem is not the dirt jumps, it's the NS.
It's not the counselor who is driving this, it's 5 residents.  The councilor is helping us.  And we have been speaking to city parks for months now.
We are now also going to work with Bryanston East Community Forum.  Keep your knickers in check girls...

Ta, although thats not the tone presented by the article, I retract moi politicking statement. Great to see there was a strong enough response to resolve this constructively. Clap

Are the Rangers patrolling a certain stretch or does this apply in general to the whole Spruit?

Well done to those taking this up. I see a faint light at the end of the tunnel.Cool

Hi Theo Nkonki,

Thanks for your article in the Sandton Chronicle

yesterday, it has been much debated in our online forum for Mountain

Bikers

Althought you did do some research for you

article(Speaking to Joburg City Parks), you did not get the full

picture?

Many of the local residents and park uses were

complaining that the Mountain bikers were inconsiderate and destructive to the

Spruit, so the Mountain Biking community, in the form on MTB Clubs, dicided to

repair exsiting stuructures (pedesrian bridges) and construct more Bridges and

MTB specific structures (Ramps, Board walks, etc.) in an effort to build a

better relationship with other park users. Each MTB club is responsible for a

section of the Spruit and must keep the stuctures in good

repair.

Quad Bikes and Motor bikes are not allowed in City

Parks, this is the Law and we all know this.

However Bicycles are allowed in Parks except in some

parts of Emmarentia Park were there are signs are

Posted.

As the Mountain biking community, we have taken the

initiative to

?

Increase the Safety of the other

park users,

?

Increase the awareness of our

hobby/ activity

?

Increase our

enjoyment

?

Improve the condition of the

paths

I will be looking forward to your next series of

articles on ?The Spruit? which must include

  • The increase in

the numbers of Squatters living on the Spriut

  • The decrease in

wild life due to Polluted waters

  • The citizens

walking their dogs illegally without leashes

  • The Stench of

horse manure from the Park Ranges horses

  • The gatherings of

    People drinking in public illegally

  • Litter and

    Pollution of the Spruit

To close off  I would like to add that, although

some of our ?Group? are rude, obnoxious and inconsiderate, the majority are

considerate , Environmentally Aware, family orientated people how actually add a

sense of security for the ladies how decide to go jogging buy

themselves.

Thanks for your time

Regards

Adam Algeo

It's been decided NS stuff is going down...

Damn, who decided so? I was just starting to  enjoy all that stuff.

Typical, aim at the soft targets, but leave the squatters who light fires, litter, mug, commit crime and pollute the stream.

P1SSES me off no end.

maybe the mtb'ers should now boycott teh spruit in its entirety - let the squatters get 100% settled in and the crime can take off. and write letters to the papers wishing all the residents the greatest joy for the future with the increased crime

SP, your problem with boycotting it is that 90% of the Spruit users couldn't give a continental fig and would ignore the boycott. They just want a reasonably safe area to ride and are not remotely interested in NS bridges, jumps, teeter-totters etc.

thuggie, i know, i just had to vent! (not that i personally would ever consider riding any of the ns stuff myslef, but i was hoping to watch peeps doing it sometime

Watched the guys on Saturday riding the NS stuff, building and shaping a new jump and was in awe as to how much work goes into it and how much skill is required to ride it.

Its a real pity as I think this is all self funded.

If it needs to be taken down then the builders should do it. Otherwise it will end up on the dumps. Very sad day when this is going to happen.

are you guys in JHB not going to take them on to stop them?

This is what I'm wondering? Mike Bradley from the MTB commision has handled situations like this before.

Man, we really are becoming a nanny state,,,,, Angry

Is there a factual reason why this stuff has to be dismantled.

If it was not being used by MXers and that is what caused all the stink why is there still an issue?
