uuuurrrggggg now I have to start my days work.

where is that bar one for 24+1 ;)

I will log into the weight loss challenge on Monday.

What you have been doing is amazing. Echoing all the comments so far, you Sir are a real gentleman. I remember this same sentiment from the 2015 fires. Mark and I fought fires for three nights in a row, showering at 2am, sleep, then hitting the desk to catch up at 5 and repeat.

You however Slowbee have gone well above the call of duty, SALUTE!

I have never been so glad to come home and see these mountains again. This was taken on the road to Vergelegen yesterday afternoon. First time in a week that I could see them. Feels like years.

Now to start washing the ash off our house and cars.

I would love to say the fire is out - but it is not, it has just moved.  I will try post some pics later. But Mr VAT SARS man is going to come knocking soon.

The big circles are well covered and under control.

Personally, those little yellow dots on the mountains of HH Mountains are a worry. The wind is due to hit 30km/hr today, but up there more closer to 50km/hr. If that fire takes hold again with a south easter, Jonkershoek will be at risk.

My brother's farm is in Tulbagh and he says the guys there are gearing up to fight it because the wind is driving it.

strongs to them. cause there the wind blows big time AND its hotazhel AND they have no water !!!

chatting to the owner of the hotel he says all building work has been stopped because there is not enough water for building. Any truth in this?

have a good one guys.

Thanks Slowbee. He tells me it is up in the mountains, making it difficult for locals to reach. Thankfully it should not threaten farms but one never knows. As for that wind, sounds like you know it well. He has some six-month-old Cape Ash trees which has all their leaves blown off on Monday.

Don't know about the water situation but Tulbagh is always dry so that sounds likely.

Well done for all your work in S.West in helping there - I also echo the thanks you have received so far and know your efforts are appreciated - and thanks for the strongs message.

So...Quick straw poll. What is the cause of these fires? We can all agree it's not lightning, right? OK, my joke. But what is the cause?

1. Arson.

2. Negligence.

3. Human-related accident.

4. Non-human accident.

Any views? And any remedies?

Arson & glass. And then maybe negligence as an outside reason.

Cigarette butts, whilst being a very nice scapegoat, are hardly ever starters of a wildfire.
