Wind even stronger here now in Strand, and direction changed. I estimate the gusts to be about 50 knots now.  My one double surfski is being blown around the backyard. And that is a 28kg boat.

Strongs to the people in SW. It looks about to get real ugly.

The problem is that there is no rain forecasted, and the wind is forecasted to blow till next Monday. Plenti potential for more fires, even if they get this one under control.

Sitting here listening to that wind pumping makes me think back about 2 years and how awful that was for so many. And now it's happening again.

Strongs to all those involved and affected right now.

This is really bad... Eish!

Prayers going out to all the firefighters and volunteers helping out.

Hope this fire can be stopped ASAP.

EDIT: I can even smell the smoke here in Durbanville.

little fires popping up all over

the most irritating people right now are the "professional" photographers with their camera's and cars just taking up space. all looking for photographs they can put on FB with their company name for free advertising. if i was an admin i would whollop their asses right outta the solar system. plonkers the lot of them

lots of feaked out pet owners, not so much by the fire - but the smoke. Its thick and hectic. inside our home the eyes are burning and you can feel it in the throat.

bunnies, tortoises and now a few cats and dogs.

but things are hectic chaps, its unbelievable how quickly things have turned for the worse.

a problem is ,any people are away and house sitters have no idea what to do, where to go.

people being evacuated dont know where to go, where to sleep. kids are really traumatised, which is heartbreaking. seeing a dad running with two kids, just telling mom to get the hell out. pets running everywhere not sure what to do, just leaving everything and going running to escape the smoke more than the flames, cause in this wind if you see flames its to late.

the total fire line is now massive. from Vergelegen saddle all the way to sir lowry and the N2 is closed as it may jump. the fire is also over han se kop and in very difficult terrain.

oh and to those nay sayers, the fire in du ttoits was started by a caravan that lost a wheel and then in stopping and pulling to the side the sparks from the wheel rim set grass on fire, which in the wind, got out of hand.

please dont say it will never happen to you!!

but have an evacuation plan in place for your house/home/personal stuff, for any situation. not just a fire

practice it with the kids, make it a game or something.

If the poo hits the fan here, the wife grabs the kid, dad grabs a box with NB original documents in (not all places allow printed stuff from the cloud). Every family is different, but just have a plan and practice. Yes it may be silly - but that one time you need it, you need it. and fast.

just like cycling, you train to race and you race like you train

We have our bags with the most NB stuff packed and at the door. Just need to grab the pram and chuck everything into the bakkie and go.

But the wind has died down here, so I trust that we don't need to make a dash for it.

things have reached a serious boiling point of violence now ... law enforcement are not letting volunteers through  - but there are not enough fire workers to cover fire as they spread thin.

calls on Fb begging for help with any form of water containers are being refused by law enforcement and people are starting to get very angry guns with pepper spray are drawn.

waiting for a family to come down with a horde of pets

locals who know how to walk around these things are now looting deserted houses.
