I hope I don't annoy too many roadies when I say that I've yet to suffer on a road bike the way I have on a mountain bike.

Maybe if you do a bit more suffering you would be able to keep up with your group

Thanks for the race report Mamil, very entertaining, hoping to see many more

I had a good day

First time after 4 attempts I managed to stick with my bunch up Visserswalk (just referring to Tour de PPA, yet to manage it with 99er) - Dale I was looking for you but I was too tired to notice if you were there..

Rode in B the whole season and today it seemed like a number of new faces in the bunch and the pace was harder than any other race in B I have done the past few months! Was hard work to hold on.

Was part of a break-away of about 5 riders on the opikopi climb about 5 kilometers out, man we almost made it stick, we were literally caught in the last 300 meters. I was already hearing "Chariots of Fire" playing in my head when that CT Giants rider glided past me to win the group  :cursing:

And to the C-bunch rider that sneaked into the group at the starting chute, not cool... I might have forgiven you if you were willing to take turns in the breakaway, but the oke was so determined to wheelsuck the front rider the whole way he made it harder for everyone else to take turns.

I saw you but I don't think I could breath at that stage with a HR of around 191 bpm so was unable to even grunt a hello. Did you see how fast the pair in front of us was? They jumped from the gun and got about 100m on us by the time we hit the main road. Chased and caught them and for some reason my Captain went to the front for about 1500m. As we turned onto Visserhok they were rested and took off. Mind you, that was the only climb we left the big

SNIP

Yes

You two were deep in the pain cave????????????

Well done today

You should have told him to come to the hub and read the wheel sucking thread

The E group was sent the wrong way down Boland Way (left instead of right) by a marshal/traffic official. By the time we were fetched by a moto marshal, and turned around and got back on the correct route, the front F guys had gone past. Quite frustrating and caused E group to lose 3-4 minutes by my estimation.

Not good to have done that to you....we got the E bunch only outside Durbanville if I remember correctly and the front E only just before Eensaamheid. Finished 4th in F. Very happy with progress. Now to drop 10kg's to get to B seeding.

Has anyone addressed the fact that we had to start on a bloody dirt road yet??  If you weren't in the first two rows in the chutes, you were getting all kinds of wheelspin at the start.

Never seen anything more ridiculous.  Why not move the start 10-15 m up, where there was lots of space available?  Honestly, these organisers don't think sometimes.

I am not sure why they do this but they do it consistently, they do it every year at tour de ppa.

Made a b line to the front as quick as possible when got called for the groups. We asked at the start and got a non response.

Its just stupid if you ask me.  At least make a proper neutral zone then

I assume you started in A? B -group (and I assume the others) were moved forward before we started so I guess you guys were the guinea pigs...

Not sure why they don't use the same setup as for the 99er, put the timing mats on the road?

Yup was in A.  They probably heard everyone complaining.  Its probably a road closure issue, extra costs etc.

Maybe it's because PPA - CEO is a mountain biker and has not worked out that road bikes do not work so well on dirt road.

I believe the chief marshal and Wendy from PPA, after the 1st few groups started and saw the problem, did role the riders over the mats then were started on a the tared road.
