Managing work and cycling

Bsc Geoinformatics(GIS) small degree in terms of numbers but a lot of crossover with IT.

It is expensive compared to cooking, you can go and prepare your weeks food on a sunday and then just reheat all week, but that is a mission in my opinion.

Good luck with that, I'm hoping to get mine in physics so I can specialize in computational physics. Still a way to go though.

I have worked in audit for three years, which sadly means that I haven't spent as much time on the bike as I would have liked for whatever reasons.

That being said OP, if I can echo the sentiments relayed elsewhere in this thread:

If its important to you, you will find the time.

Almost ready to start hanging on to the back of elite. Putting in on avg 11hrs a week at this stage.

Just done a bit of stalking and it look like you have had some good results/bunch finishes in the second half of the year.

It's a pity to stated in B batch at 94.7 as you could of had some fun with us in A batch. :D

A few questions:

Have you applied for a racing license?

Do you ride in a group or solo?

Have you raced elite before?

My current weekly riding is as follows:

Monday: Rest day.

Tuesday: Up 4am, on bike 4:25am, group ride 55-65km/1:45-2:10hrs.

Wednesday: Up 4am, on bike 4:25am, group ride 55-65km/1:45-2:10hrs.

Thursday: Up 4am, on bike 4:25am, group ride 55-65km/1:45-2:10hrs.

Friday: Up 4:30am, on bike 5:50am, coffee/recovery ride 30km/1:00-1:10hrs.

Saturday: Up 4am, on bike 4:25am, group ride 100-200km/4:00-8:00hrs.

Sunday: Up 4am, on bike 4:25am, group ride 100-200km/4:00-8:00hrs.

Congrats! I never left, #FlexiTime #Kids

Which firm ends articles in Feb, thought it was only KPMG Cape Town that did that?

Thanks! Off to Belgium next :D

I would kill for some of that there #FlexiTime...#kids can wait a few years however.

Small firm. Big4 couldnt offer me the chance to put my Tax Masters to use so I went down this road. Sometimes feel I missed out on the clerk camaraderie not doing Big4.

Don't know the work environment in Belgium but here in Germany they are pretty open to the whole Flexitime and Homeoffice thing.  I am sure in the beginning not, but when you have gone through the probation time you might be surprised.

Haha thanks, I was pretty mif about B batch, was a hella lazy group and the work was split for the majority of the ride between me and 6 other guys.

I have applied for my racing licence, just sorting out club membership. Raced Geralds' crit with elites and it was an eye opener.

Mostly train solo and have a partner/group most weekends.

Currently I train with a coach, so my schedule is:

Mon - Rest

Tues - 1-1:30 IDT Intervals

Wed - 1-3hr Outdoor Easy - Moderate

Thur - 1-1:30 IDT Intervals

Friday - 1-2hr Outdoor Easy - Moderate

Sat/Sun - 3-5hrs

I don't like to focus on going for distance, rather for time.
Last FTP Test was just before 94.7 and was just at 4w/kg

That's the problem with most IT related careers, we have some sort of customer service angle which makes it tough to just leave on time.

Agree 100 % with this statement.

I current work with Barclays Africa and am based at Absa towers (customer site) in town doing some of there software development so getting home at normal times can sometimes be difficult.

I train with a group in Benoni, generally leave at 4:40 and do 30 - 40 km rides.

I drive to the start point, complete ride with as much dignity as possible (finish at 6) and go shower at the Bedford Virgin gym on the way to work. At work by 7 to try leave at 15:30.

Yip eilte's is another ball game.

Training looks good, my best FTP was just over 5w/kg but that was a few years ago.

Are you racing GP provincials?

Unfortunately not, I'll try and commit to provincials + nationals next year.

I'm hoping to reach the sharp end of elites by end of the year.

An 1 - 1.5w/kg in a year should be doable with some serious commitment and suffering

Too bad, the sharp end is a tall order but possible.

SA Champs is a whole step further, I wont be racing this year but did last year and racing 180km at +40km/h is just mental. I just didn't have the legs to make the final move when Louis and Daryl decided to start racing. Still managed to make the top 30 which was the goal but was something like 17mins off the pace.

Might see you next year.

That worked fine for me until the kids came...

I get home at 5h30pm and it's suicide hour with 2 nagging toddlers and a tired wife and I tell them - hello and cheers - I'm going cycling for 2 hours - what could possibly go wrong...

Fixed it for you...
