Scott Spark 940 2017 vs Silverback Sesta Comp

The time has come to upgrade to a full sus and I'm torn between these two. Please could I have your opinions??? Both are retailing for R45999. Much appreciated!

The Silverback has a carbon frame but the components aren't as good as what comes with the Spark. No dropper post, 2x10, no dual remote lockout. However, having a carbon frame allows for the opportunity to upgrade the components down the line.

The Spark has an Alloy frame (bike weight reported at 13.5kg) but has better components. Possibly no need to upgrade components but I'm stuck with the alloy frame.

2 different bikes, the sesta is a race bike, where the spark is more trail oriented. You have to compare sesta with the spark RC.

So it also comes down to what you are planning to ride and expect from the bike.

You don't need the carbon frame unless you are already performing at the top end of your abilities.  I would personally go for the better components and more versatile bike (read:  the Scott).  10 speed is almost dead.

Exactly what I was going to say, one is a out and out race machine and the other a heavier more playful bike.

Personally I would be super torn about this one, I love what Scott have done and think the new spark would be a super fun bike.

The Sesta is a particularly special bike though and is amazing value for money.

Sesta's geometry is somewhat outdated, specs (10 speed) outdated - to upgrade to a 1x I think an 11 speed mandatory (do you want to throw more money at parts after an expensive bike acquisition?). Heck the 700mm bar, long stem, general parts list on the Sesta is a bit of a joke, much also yesteryear. The Spark is way more capable and future-proof. How much more does it weigh? No clue. Chances are you won't win races with either so choose the one that's more capable and fun. A headtube angle of 71 deg on the SB can't be fun.

Note you only mentioned frame and parts not geometry. Riding each of these bikes your will see they are world's apart with different duties in mind. So ride em and see what's more in with your expectations. Twitchy, fast handling:SB / more trail friendly in general but requiring dedication uphill (!): Scott.
