And what an awesome race it was. But I promised myself this year. Will never do it again.....without a compact crank!!. That mountain in Golden gate killed me on the 53/39 at front...lol

It certainly was a perfect day out on the road. Great weather, beautiful surroundings and a well organised race.

Will definitely be back.

Hi guys,

Compared to last year the weather was perfect and I hope all of you that rode had a good day out.

Racetec has unfortunately messed up our results ( finish times ) - is anybody else got the same problem?

Regards

:eek: What you running at the back? I was fine last year with proper cranks(175mm, 53/39, 11-28) and I am not a mountain goat, Climbing is my weakness.

We also had a great day out on the bikes.

Had a small crash in our team which dampened our spirits a bit.

Managed the climb with my 39/25

Racetec have also messed up our teams results. Half the team has no results.

My only major GRIPE is that when we got to Water Point 4 (just after mine shaft)  there was absolutely nothing to drink, no water, no coke, no f0k all.

Our team planned to re-group there and refill our bottle which ended up being a major stuff up.

Saw some guys at the bottom near that garage looking for a tap.

That was terrible PPA !!!!!!

Hopefully they have it on the same weekend next year and we'll be back.

The organisers also make the race sound so difficult but it's completely manageable.

Got to about 130km with 1200m of climbing - 94.7 is harder than that (94km with 1200m climbing)

The next 47km do get tough but the mine shaft peaks at 16% and is about 800m long, the zig zag before the mine shaft is also tough, some found that harder than the mine shaft.

Pity L'Etape was scheduled for the same weekend otherwise there would have been a bigger field.

PPA please plan the water points properly and make sure that water point 4 (which is the most important WP) is properly stocked !!!!

I'm interested

Easy to get in

Unlike D.C. ?

I don't think us Vaalies have grasped the concept of a Team TT. So until they do, it should be easy to get an entry (providing you have a team). Joining another team is as easy as asking on their FB page.

I opted for the L'EtapeSA this year, and promised to return next year. Seems 2017 should be written off as a good decision that went wrong. Pity two endurance events were planned on the same weekend.

That's strange, Racetec not showing all the results.

From last year:

  • The team time (first 6) is shown and everyone else has their own individual time;
  • The final water point was active last year (even though we didn't stop);
  • With proper training, it's possible to get through this event on 4 bottles - 2 before the water point and 2 after.

Will definitely be back in 2018, as planned.

8 of us went over the line, Racetec only registered 4 of us and then the last 2 team members which were like an hour behind.

1 guy had to pull out with a knee problem

the other 5 have no times what so ever.

We made sure the 3 ladies in our team went over the mats before the 6th person (3rd guy) but chip never registered.

I gave 1 of my bottles to one of the ladies in our team as she had finished all the fluids, I had enough to get me to the water point but when I got there and their was no water / coke :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing: .
