PappaBear Posted May 16, 2008 Share Hi all! I am contemplating upgrading from hardtail to dualie... Still want a XC bike, so 80-100mm travel is fine. I'm just gonna transfer my parts from the hardtail, so only buying the frame. What frame do you suggest? My budget is kinda limited, so please: NO CARBON!!!! Currently my number 1 option is the mongoose canaan. J
Mark Posted May 16, 2008 Share Have a look at the Anthem 1 think its a little more than the Mongoose.
Iwan Kemp Posted May 16, 2008 Share What is your budget? You get Alu frames from R7k up to R19k.

Thug Posted May 16, 2008 Share If your current bike has an 80mm fork you might have to purchase a new fork. Most XC dual sussers these days have head angles that accomodate 100mm forks.

GoLefty!! Posted May 16, 2008 Share Going from Hardtail to veryshort travel XC Duallie is not such a big change in performance but a big change in weight if you are on a budget. At the low end of the price range you are adding nearly a kilo of weight to the bike for a benefit that may only be felt after 80km. I would say stick to a hardtail till your budget can accomodate a more expensive and better performing frame. Few XC duallies will cost you less than R17K for frame and shock only! AndreZA Posted May 16, 2008 Share I dropped about 400g when I changed from my RM4 Raleigh to Santa Cruz. New frame and fork but all the rest from the Raleigh. Lost another 100g last night when I removed my bar-ends.

AndreZA Posted May 16, 2008 Share Again read the post in context. YOu went from low end hardtail to top end dualie. Care to share the price difference... Only high end frame. The rest is Deore, bottom of the range Ritchey, Juicy 3s and HEAVY tubed wheels. Extra cost, thanks to the 2nd hand market it only cost me the price of another RM4. PappaBear Posted May 16, 2008 Share My current hardtail is a Schwinn moab.... very heavy frame. Want to get the mongoose canaan, don't think the bike will end up heavier.... parts is SRAM x.7 and x.9, juicy 3 and rock shock tora. J
