My big pack takes 3. Bottle only takes 750. So it depends on the ride. Mostly, I use bottle. If it's an all day trip, I use the big pack. If I'm not sure how long I'll go for but I think it'll be longer than a 750 will be able to handle, then the fanny is fine. Plus it keeps things out of pockets.
