Hey fingers also needs a workout.

Just remember (assuming you are born after 1970 to be safe) one day you are also going to grow old so be sympathetic. We are talking LOL mean typing ourselves up.

Where were the days when I warmed up 30km to a race. Do a 100km race and warmed the 30 km down back home or decided to train a bit extra and do 200 km in a day and bite the bullit and do 600 km for the week.

25km from home to school, Stellenbosch to Bellville ..... nice hills, nice thick case full of books on the back ....

Think it was a Raleigh Rapport .....

Rain or shine, 1 0000 km per month just to school and back.

LOL I don't know if it was before or after but the few Vadbyts I did started at Willem Prinsloo.

Did one (1997) with af friend on the Tandem and a lot of guys fell on the road from Delmas to Bronkies. Nearly brought us down as well. (Heavy cross wind on the day and people coming from behind clipping handlebars going past. Saw 3 big crashes in 5 km where more than 10 people coming down in each fall.

The last one i rode was 1989 and we we started at Lynnwood Drive Inn . The tandems were always great to have in the front bunch as they were fast on the flat sections before Bapsfontein and Delmas . We always burned  them off on the little pass ( i think Tier Kloof or Pass )  before you head to Pretoria or if they managed to catch us the climb to Lynnwood would be too fast . I loved that race .

99.9 kg...i had to get back on the scale just to check...by next week we start focusing on the 90 kg mark.

bought a new T shirt and it didnt have an X on the label :)

training is complete...i could have done more...but hey i am happy with the effort i have put in.

Will be joining the ECCC for the 6 am ride to make sure everything is ready.

If all goes according to plan i hope to finish the shova around 3.30.

3 years ago the thought of riding from Ushaka to Umhlanga included a lunch box...chocolates...energy bars...1 x 2 litre hydration pack...1 x 750 ml water bottle...1 x 750 ml energade...and many stops to recover.

Great news , im jealous . You are going to enjoy the Amashova at that weight . You put the training and correct food intake in place now its time to reap the  benefit . I remember when i started cycling again in the early 80's and i set my goal to ride my first race ( 60 km plus ) and i did a sub 2hr ride on a hilly course . Good luck .

maybe we can speak to the chairman and ask for diet bread rolls

If only there were such rolls HAHA Nothing better than a good cheese griller on a soft freshly baked roll with sweet chili sauce

As an aside, I've made bread where some of the flour was replaced with barley husks (a waste product from brewing) which was lower in kcal and more roughage. tasted a bit clutchty though.

now we talking my language...you have no idea how difficult it is for me to walk past the chips and griller counter...but night time binge eating is still the most difficult...especially when i have a lot on my mind.

this challenge is yet to begin...loosing the weight is the easy part...i have goal to achieve...its not putting it all back on that is going to be the difficult part...all it takes is a slight change in your routine.

No, that's the easy part... you just keep doing what you're doing and your weight-loss will slowly get less and less and your body will balance out. Doing what we DID is what made us put on weight. Not letting that happen again will be the key...

There are some "safer" options for snacking.  Though nothing is "safe" in binge volumes ....

HALF a handfull of nuts

Handfull of sliced biltong (NO not a 1m piece of biltong in your hand  )

two cups of popcorn (air or microwave popped)

Rice cake with cottage cheese

Bran or English muffin

Jogurt

uhm ja ... one each aint exactly the idea either ...  :whistling:

1 or 2 rusks DO help !    Bokomo All Bran is the better option.

I will reach my goals this year...

Gut...to trim it...lets get this sorted then we can focus on not putting it back on.

distance...ride 160 km...for this i will phone a friend after the shova and ask him to plot a route and join me for the ride..he has a lot of long distance experience ...who knows maybe others will join us...if we do a DC it would be an added bonus...you never know.

some say as you get older so you get slower...i believe if you put in a little effort anything is possible and the percentage of effort will directly affect the result as seen here.

Jan 2015 I attempted my first 100 km ride with very few hills.

moving time - 5:20:19

elapsed time - 6:38:15

avg speed - 19.2 km/h

I decided to put in a lot effort for the shova that year...the result

shova 2015

moving time - 4:15:34

elapsed time - 4.35:41

avg speed - 24.6 km/h

this year had other goals but put in a little effort a couple of weeks before the shova.

shova 2017

moving time - 3:33:40

elapsed time - 3:35:04

avg speed 28.9 km/h

official racetec time 3:36:29 ...avg speed 29.38 km/h

2 things made me miss my target of 3:30...my weight and that wind AGAIN...man that wind from Hillcrest is a real spoiler.

Well done . The fact that missed your target by so little must be heartbreaking . As you say the wind and gut were the two factors but congrates on a massive improvement .
