Talk me out of this...6Fatty

Easy. That's not a 6Fatty.

The '6Fattie' is Specialized's nomenclature for their 650B plus bikes. That's just a Titan plus bike.

All that aside, if it suits your riding style and needs, go for it. Just keep in mind that the current crop of plus tyres don't have the strongest carcasses. As such, if you plan on ride in very rocky and/or thorny areas, be ready to fix punctures or quickly upgrade to tyres with better puncture protection.

Sorry bout that...Plus bike it is.

Just worried that it's a fad and I won't be able to get tyres in a years time.

Although it does look like a lekker bike, have not ridden Plus yet, no demos around here anyways. Was wondering if I do decide to maybe do a 100 miler on open gravel if it would be a good choice to go for as I'll only have one bike.

Thanks.

Are you buying a bicycle for functionality or aesthetics. There is only one correct answer.

Function chom, I want to enjoy the ride...not enjoy what other people think of me.

Ya, then don't get a road bike...

that aside, plus bike will give you a bit of plush without complications of rear suspension

I would just get a standard 29'er and be rest assured you are going to be able to get a range of tires for a while. This may be a fad, especially in SA. I can see it may work in muddy Whistler or New Zealand, but for crossing the vlaktes, a 29er may be best. And a 29er may be easier to sell in future.

Lekker to see that the Vrystaat boere are on the ball!

Welkom by the hub ;)

I'd steer clear of that thing. Better value, easier ride, better tyre choices in 29", particularly in the "recently pre-owned" department

Good point, thanks!

AT R 18k no matter what you buy you will never be able to get more than R 10k for it in a years time. 29er or Plus. See the other thread about finance - don't ever worry about returns on investments on toys, there is none.

Having said that if you are in the sticks then going to something that is more standard and has wider adoption in terms of wheel sizes will allow you to get more tire and wheel choice at a later stage.

And to contradict myself anything 27,5 Plus size will also take a 29er wheel if need be.

Think about the fact that Plus sizes are also quite high in rolling resistance so if it's your first or only bike and you are not too experienced you may find it tests your fitness much more than a conventional 29er.

Never a straight answer on the hub mate. Look in the classifieds. You may get a nice older Dual sus 29er - there were some Specialized Epic Comps there with dual suspension at good prices.

Nice to meet you Bikerboer. That bike looks awesome. I started riding again this year. Havn't

ridden since I was a teenager. Bought an entry level Titan Expert and am loving it. The bike does everything I want and need from it. And at my age I'm not expecting to win races for at least 6 to 8 months. (age hint:-back in the day there was only 3 roads in Josie)

No matter what you buy add the 'tubeless conversion' and ENJOY.
