Help a Buffalo!

Wet Ears

Here goes another one of those horrid please help me choose threads! I have a pretty good idea of what it is that I am looking for but thought it best to approach the Oracle aka the Hub readership for some advice.

Herewith the facts:

- Managed to secure a Sani2C entry so have started riding again - would like to upgrade bike as plan to do more races post Sani

- Price range is 60-70k

- I weigh 110kg and am just over 6 foot

- Want a bike that ticks the above boxes

I have done my homework and have narrowed my choices down to (in order of preference, I think):

i) Momsen Vipa 2

ii) Cannondale Scalpel Si

iii) Specialized Camber

iv) Cube AMS Pro 110

I was about to pull the trigger on the Momsen but then thought that with my weight would it not make sense going for a brand that offers a lifetime warranty on the frame a surely 110kgs in going to crack a carbon frame at some point?

Want to pull the trigger this week so any thoughts would be welcome!

Cheers

I've ridden much heavier on a carbon frame

Santa Cruz is also in that range just saying,,,I haven't managed to break one yet,,,had a few

110 is the new 80 :)

if it was me id go for the Giant Anthem advanced  - life time warranty on the frame , super comfortable ride. good solid bike that you wont need a warranty for but its nice knowing its there,

Some nice choices! As per usual, test them all, it will come down to the bike that puts the biggest smile on your face.

I would check the weights on the Specialized warranty - they used to sit between 95 and 105kgs if I remember correctly.

Was considering a Santa Cruz but the Tallboy starts at 90k doesn't it?

Sorry to sound like an ignoramus but don't the shops just let you take the bike for a spin in the car park?

How about the Pyga Stage? Or Stage Max? Got good reviews, homegrown eye candy...

Had a look at Pyga and only reason for not choosing it is the positioning of the rear shock. Granted I know nothing about bike geometry etc but I am convinced that having the rear shock up near the top tube makes for a stiffer ride - which I prefer.

Im not trying to be funny but at your weight you arent going to be winning races, so a more comfortable bike with around 120mm travel would probably be the best.

I would say stay away from the twitchy race steeds and go for something with slightly more relaxed geo, the 'dale si, camber and stage max would be good for that.

Maybe this will change your mind about your assumption:

Get something that will be comfortable during the long days in the saddle...

Most bike shops will let you take a bike for a few days (well at least mine did here in Cape Town).

Don't discount the Pyga - they are extremely capable, and nothing beats a full floating suspension... Anyway, you may find this out on the Sani if you new wheels break down.
