So learning my lesson from past trailseeker events i emailed them asking are they sure they only got 400m from 40kms, we dont have mine heaps. so i was advised to rather wait to the week of the event as the actual profiles will be available. So i am waiting.

Then what in their opinion are the profiles they listed on their site?

I really like to know in advance what I'm getting myself in for - a marathon is right on the edge of my current capabilities and I've entered on the strength of the 1200meters of climbing on a profile that looks tough enough but doable.

I will feel not so lekker about it if the week before a new profile is published showing 1850 and 74km (just to pick 2 arbitrary numbers).

The 74km will most probably be around 1500m of climbing, keeping in mind what the other Trailseekers were at, and the terrain around Tulbagh.

I am doing the half. I have come to the conclusion that I don't have the legs yet. I did a MTB ride at Welvanpas Saturday, 29km with 950m of climbing in a blustery wind, and yesterday did 75km with my roadie over Helshoogte and back, also around 950m of climbing. I was bleeding through my eyeballs the last 5km into the light Easterly. My body was tired as never before.

I am soooo unfit and fat at the moment i am struggling to get up helderberg plaas without resting...so i doubt if i will pitch up for the half even if they are correct with their numbers

I also rest after Heartbreak Hill. No excuse for not pitching.

I've entered the 70 - might downgrade. I did 34 on the road on Friday, 32 at Gansbaai Great White, then 40 at Oak Valley on Sunday and 125 on the road on Monday - including a weird sensation at about 103 where I thought I might be dying but actually just needed sugar and a little whimpering sit down at a restaurant - this despite fuelling with gels and energy bars and dates throughout the ride. Live and learn - take proper food with - these hitech bars and stuff are not the answer.

Or maybe I'll just HTFU - discipline myself into a little taper over the next 10 days and take the marathon on.

Monster!

I have chickened out and am doing the 99er 25km this weekend. I thought that I would not yet have recovered from my illness 2 weeks ago, but alas, I could probably have done the 45km.

Are the 99er route profiles accurate? Do the 45km really have over 1300m of climbing?

As far as I know those are accurate - some big hills there

I also had a fun ride at Paul Cluver this weekend with two mates. One arrived in baggies and I think he needs to change his Hubname.
