I've never done this race, quite keen on doing this one instead of Emperor's.

You got a Strava file?

M7, Edwin Swales Drive, (section of 2.5km), is still a mess with potholes and it will be the case until this country votes in another dispensation. Stay in the very right hand lane. Be careful of a nasty expansion gap in the road around the Hans Dettman turn off from about 6 kilometers before Pinetown. Again stay in the very right hand lane to avoid. M19 is still negotiable at top speed, no brakes needed, (expect to top around 65 - 95 km/h for the 11 km downhill). From the bottom of the M19 you will be on the smoothest road found in any part of Africa. Enjoy. At the turn around in Umdloti there is a small stretch of corrugated tar either side of the circle. It will loosen the fillings in your teeth. Then, safety belts on and Home Jerome. Hopefully with a tailwind. It is no uncommon for any self respecting cyclist to impersonate Sagan on this last stretch home. Enjoy.

The elevation on that seems off, I have it at about 840m

Probably is off - it's a 2009 Garmin that I use.

Garmin Connect shows 1149m (with elevation correction).

Strava shows 1270m.

My 2009 ride shows 979m - also from the same device.

That alone should indicate that the number can't be trusted.

FWIW - the guy that finished 2nd in 2015 (in VC) shows 870m on his activity.

all i know is it is a long up hill from the N2 to Crimetown...and then just another little climb to prepare you for the long M 19 drop back to the N2.

I was concerned about the road last year...at the speed i travel there is no need for concern...in fact some of Edwin Swales has been tarred...the M19 is brand new...there are places of concern but considering most of the road is a 2/3 lane freeway...there is a lot of good surface to ride.

I think it is the best race of the year nationwide.  CTCT is special and unique but busy as hell.  Stellenbosch is pleasant but not full road closures.  94.7 is probably the ugliest race.  All Gauteng smaller races are decent but lack an edge.  Only Shova competes with ToD but that is a point to point which is annoying.  ToD is fast, the weather is usually lovely and it is fairly scenic.  Actually I wish there was closer to double the amount of rdiers doing the 100km race.

BTW I was in Pinetown yesterday and the potholes are terrible especially the last 1km before the M19.

Trying to get the legs ready again after a crash 2 weekends ago. Only weekday training left to do it. Suffered on the circuits today. Oh boy...
