Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Please offer some advice from you experience or knowledge....looking to upgrade to 1x11 with an oval chainring....looking at CSIXX & ABSOLUTE BLACK rings....

Which one would you recommend and why? Leaning towards Csixx, been told it is a better quality and longer lasting product...

All your help and information would be great....

Thanks

I personally have never been able to tell the difference between one narrow wide and another. I've had billions. They were all the same to me. Assuming we're talking about the same tooth count and price bracket. I would buy the one I thought was prettiest.

Which one makes a SRAM direct mount 3mm offset? Absolute black or the suppliers in SA never seem to have stock

I am running Csixx on my Single Speed and Absolute Black on my Trail Bike. In all honesty, I cannot tell the difference, both are quality products. I would go for CSixx - support local

Both make the 3mm offset. I have the Absolute Black 3mm offset on my trail bike, but at the time of buying both brands had some in stock.

Just as an aside ... is the 'timing' for want of a better word the same on all oval rings so the only differentiator is how long they MAY last?

6mm for a 135/142mm standard. 3mm offset for boost.

I just ordered a 28 tooth CSIXX for EA... that 0.66666 granny ratio is equal to a 24/36 2x and with a 10kg plus backpack it makes a huge difference.

Will see how it goes and report back.

CSIXX is local so I would be more inclined to support them than AB

As Jewbacca mentioned, 3mm offset is for boost bikes. 6mm for your standard 142mm bikes. You won't go wrong with Oval, feels a bit strange to start off with, but you get used to it after 10mins, and although it won't transform your climbing ability, it does help.

Can I make you more confused(or rather will I?)

I am on the Rotar Q oval ring. What I like about it is that you have 3 bolt settings. So you can advance or retard the angle of the oval.

I bought from Evobikes
