I see this broke TheRadavist as well.... Looks like some strong guys are having a hard time of it out there!

I must say it does appeal to me

Why do we love suffering so much? I'm literally sitting here thinking, "man this looks tough, maybe I should do it"

By the looks of those Strava stats it may appear that the 9th of October is going to be an eventful and interesting afternoon.????????

Absolutely fantastic event!

Day 1 was brutal, toughest day on a bike for me by far. Lost a bottle 20km into the stage, stopped to retrieve it but meant I also lost the group. Rode solo for plenty kms into a headwind. Then we hit the Ouberg pass. Its a brute. Sure I walked 4 of the last 5km. Once over the top it was freezing cold and raining. Thankfully I managed to finish before dark.

Day 2 was much easier despite the cold start. I arrived without leg or knee warmers or a jacket and it was -6C. Pedalled to warm up. Road conditions were much smoother and not much wind. The final stretch was testing but nothing like day 1. Rolled into Matjiesfontein just after 1:00 and enjoyed a couple of beers.

The level of jealousy is criminal. I have never wanted to do an event more than this one. Looked like a bunch of cool guys too.

Bogus even worked double time to get the Crux ready for this race, so bleak that I couldn't do it.

100% doing it next year!

Hello KAROOBAIX followers! It's almost time for KBX 2018 - our dirt-road race specifically for gravel bikes. A true gravel race - no mountain bikes allowed. On 5 / 6 / 7 October this year, come and join us for the second edition of this epic traverse of the spectacular Tankwa Karoo. The format has changed a little from last year, but it's still a tough event - on Friday 5 October we do a short social time trail around Calvinia (where the race is based this year), and on Saturday we take on a 245km looped route through the Tankwa. It will be tough, but you will never experience the Karoo like this again. There will be basic support, and fantastic food at the start, throughout the event, and at our final celebratory breakfast on Sunday 7 October. Have a look at the website for more information - https://www.karoobaix.co.za - and come and join us!

Did a charity ride through the Tankwa earlier this year. Beautiful part of the world but the endless corrugations were brutal, going to be hurt on gravel bikes!!

One day when the mental scars have healed I might consider this  ^_^

This looks cool. Just got a frame that I still need to build up. Won't make it this year, need to pencil it in for next year. Long trek down from Limpopo!

jeez, just read the rules about the bike "must and must-not's",  its right up there with a F1 teamcar...  only thing missing is a spec on your tyre compound and the mention of DRS zones
