Lay the foundation well.

No matter how hard it is no matter if you are currently losing weight or not you are preparing the shape of things to come.

LOL .I am saying this to myself just as much as I am saying it to you. See yourself fit. Believe in that picture.

Just carry on. At this stage at the end of each training session I convince myself to cycle just one more km before I get off. I am adding already 5 km per week.

Simple things but I spend more and more time in the saddle which is my main aim.

Cheers

This mornings ride was my best so far at an average of 25 kph for the 30 km trip around OR Tambo  (72 min ) My weight is 111kg so a good week losing 2.5kg and riding at about 2kph  on average faster daily . Im attributing the weight lose to a relatively good no carb intake and spinning at 110 revs 3 times a week on my 20km road rides . Tomorrow morning im meeting some new cyclists at modder for my first real off road attempt .

What a experience compared to the little bit of off road i do . Met two young guys there who know the circuit well and were prepared to show me the way and wait for me on the climbs . we were going to do the 20 km +_ course but i broke a shoe about 8 km into the ride so we had to find a short cut to get back to  base . We did 12 km at an average of 15 kph . . Ill need to get a bit fitter and lose some weight to attempt a longer off road ride with Ian and Jurgen .

Parden the pun. LOL.

How do you eat an elephant?

Bit by bit.

No disrespect meant as I am in the same boat.

Just never stop even if it looks like there is no progress or very little.

That is the way I look at it. Took me 14 years to gather the extra 20 kg. It is not going to go away without a fight.

You so right "bit by bit " I put on +- 40kg in 20 years so i will be patient as much i would like to lose it in 6 months . Im enjoying my riding now and not getting frustrated at not being able to stay with other riders when they come past me but in a years time they will be hanging onto me HAHA .

This mornings ride was my usual 30km around OR Tambo which i did slightly slower than last week . I hooked up with two cyclists on MTB for the +_ 10 km on Atlas rd and was able to stay with them with ease . ( Im getting fitter ) I did not lose weight this week still 111 kg but have lost size as i needed to put a extra hole in my belt . So training is paying off .

A good week training with a ride at OR Tambo off road circuit on Wednesday as well . I managed a to do 2 laps in 54 min so a definite improvement from the first time . Mt weight was 110 kg after my Saturday morning ride so a 1kg loss which im happy with . Sunday was a disaster as we had a farewell lunch for my son going back to Afghanistan for his last deployment . The meat , potato salad, garlic rolls , cheese cake, chocolate cake and pineapple pudding was to much to resist . Monday being a slow day i went for a good early morning ride to ride off the excess cakes .

My weight stayed the same 110 kg but my strength and fitness increased .I did mt personal best for 30 with a time of 69 min. giving me an average of 26 kph . Im going to really concentrate on my food intake this week and see if i can crack the 110 kg mark by Saturday . My training will be much the same as i normally do as i have a busy schedule work wise this week

A bad week training due to the rain on last weekend and during the week . Managed to keep the food intake down and weighed in at 109 kg on Sunday after my 30km ride . I met up with an old mate of mine who came up behind me and recognized me . We then rode together for about 15 km which was good for me as he is fitter than me . 10 kg to go then im entering a fun ride somewhere .

So it's time to asses the report card.

weight: 115 kg from 123+ kg 5 months ago

fitness: MASSIVE increase due to a regimented training plan consisting of 6 weeks of base endurance training in zone 2 on the indoor cycle at the Viva Gym, followed by another 7 weeks of 3 - 4 weekly HIIT spinning sessions of at least 90 minutes in duration. This on top of the big rides of between 4 - 6 hours every Saturday for 3 months.

result: I did not push up ANY hill at K2C, and also partook of the Steam Train Challenge two weeks after K2C.

Now, my NEW target is sub 105kg by mid March if all goes well.

I too had a bit of a "off" week, and on the weekend I did not even take the bikes of the wall mounts, never mind ride. But then, it was the first weekend I spent entirely with my awesome wife, who patiently puts up with being a cycle widow, since I started training in June. So all in all, a good weekend actually. this morning though I hit the spin session with a vengeance, and have started a new training block to take me below 110 kg come December.

I too hit a weight loss wall in September, and struggled to get below 116 kg, but now I have managed to easily drop 2 kg in the last 2 weeks, without actually trying. I reckon it could have been better if I handled my diet better, but life is for living too every now and then.

Robbie congrats !!!

I had a most "interesting" weekend .... flew up to the Northern Cape on Friday.  Stock photos for a client, then had to "endure" full 5-star facilities !!  :whistling:    Open bar, 3 course meals, pampering beyond my wildest expectations ....

Then they switched off 99% of the lights just so that I could play a bit more.

Next morning before sunrise I was high up on a koppie, cameras at the ready for more stock photos.  Some more pampering, then had to "endure" a game drive, followed by yet another 3 course meal ....
