Import duties on pedals

Recommended Posts

I know there are threads on import duties however I'm just looking for a short answer from anyone who has recently ordered pedals from chain reaction cycles. What sort of duty fees do they carry? And is the DHL method worth the extra bucks? (DMR pedal prices in this country are stupid!!!!hence the question.)

Thanks

No duties. Just add credit card fees to purchase price (bank dependent +- 3-4%) and then 15.5% (vat, clearance fees). Look at other places like Wiggle, Merlin, bikebug bike24, etc to compare prices.

Safer to use DHL and get your items in a few days.

No duties but you will pay vat and DHL fee's above the shipping cost.

The post office has been a mess for a long time.

Is it really 15.5%?

I was working on 14%

Yes.

I actually have it at 15.4% but Cippo has ordered from overseas far more than myself. So he's probably right.

It's 15.4% as SARS lump 10% on top of the ticket price to calculate the VAT. This 10% extra is called the Added Tax Value, and is NOT a duty. It essentially boosts the VAT by 10% (1.4% actual increase in cost) which leads to the total extra you pay for VAT being 15.4%

14% * 1.1 = 15.4%

Ahh...it never ends!!! Any excuse to get more out of you...  :(

Still worth it, especially if you gather some buddies to increase the overall purchase thereby making the delivery costs zero. Do it regularly in our group.

I placed 2 big orders today, one from CRC the other Bike24 very interested to see which one arrives first. (Orders placed 5 mins apart)

My bike24 order left zee Germans this Tuesday morning at 2:00am. That is the last tracking info I have on it.

Order was place on the 26th of May and it took nearly a week for credit card clearance...I know it is a security thing to protect both parties but I have bought stuff overseas before (other hobbies) and the goods are usually shipped within a few days of placing the order...
