Idea for multiday training

I am motivated to do this, but you making me wonder if I am not too ambitious. I will try get my weekly milage back up to what it was in april. Any Ideas as to how I can create a challenge on strava or something, so if there are any other crazies out there they can join in?

I think Endomondo might be easier to create challenges for this purpose.  You can use both.  I am currently doing it with the commuters challange.  It is a good idea though.

I am not trying to discourage you.  More trying to inform you that jumping from 100 km to 300+ km per week would require some planning.  I had to go through it myself as in winter here I do no cycling with the odd indoor trainer session of 20 - 30 km but other than that not much and then the moment the temperaturs lift I start commuting 75 km per day.  So I very much have an idea of what you should be anticipating.  You will notice that you might become like a termite and want to eat everything that might just look like food.

Francois, riding every day will hurt your ass if you are not used to it...........that will be a big challenge on its own, to motivate yourself to get back on the saddle!

just go out and enjoy it. Do some longer days when you feeling good to make up the distance.

Rest enough and eat quality food to help with recovery.

Hi Guys,

So with the Le Tour de France coming up in July, I have been toying around with an idea, just not sure if it will be a good idea if your body is not conditioned for it.

Since I work for a university, we will be in recess for the duration of the TdF. So I have been thinking that I want to ride every day that the tour is running, but try and simulate similar stages to what they are riding. e.g. Hill stages, TT etc but obviously at reduced distances, and also less climbing since I do not have crazy hills close to home.

Has anybody attempted this before? Also would it be a great idea for an amateur to attempt riding for 21 days and only 2 rest days?

I remember somebody arranging something similar with the Joburg2C hence where i got the idea.

brilliant idea.

just remember you need to finish off with a huge show off sprint in Parys

Don't forget the champagne on the last day while you ride :D

Don't worry, I appreciate somebody giving me the facts instead of leaving me to my own vices. That being said, I will give it a shot. But will make sure I check myself and stop rather before incurring injuries.

I will try create the challenge on endomondo and publish the link on here.

IMO you should have some longer rides and some shorter rides.

Like over the weekend you can do longer rides with your mates and on Monday you can do a recovery ride. This will also help your legs recover to some degree.

I prefer to ride in the morning and would suggest that you do the same.

Then eat, have a nap and watch TDF, repeat, repeat, repeat.

Stock up on food because you going to get seriously hungry.

For this to be a success your diet needs to be 100% (or as close as possible).

You need to make sure that you eat enough so that you can ride the following day.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Leave your gun at home it will just get in the way  :whistling:

Just thought I would give an update.

My first third of the tour went well, managed to cover 465km in the first 9 days. However, I did not realize this would take up so much of one's time. So today I am on stage 11, but I had to drop back to the trainer as the amount of time required to cycle is interfering with my masters studies. Now I cycle between 4:30 and 6:30 in the morning, so I can spend most of the day working on my studies.

I will stick to the road over the weekends, but for the weekdays I am riding on the trainer.

Well done! That week that I did the Sani2C challenge with cat-i, there was no time for anything. Each day was ride/work/ride/eat/sleep, repeat. A challenge like this is admirable, especially if one still has work/family/study commitments.

Good luck with the remainder of the challenge!

Well done. So what has your body have to say about this? :)

Well today is rest day no 2, so far I have covered 740km. My body was not happy for the first 4 days, but seemed to have gotten used to it. I just have the munchies, and quite badly  . I am a bit behind schedule, but should be able to still make my 1000km goal by the end of the week. One can just start feeling the effects of so much riding, as I sleep like a rock and my legs are quite tired. That being said, so far I still manage to keep my average speed at 24km/h+.

And so my Tour de France comes to an end today. I managed to ride 1030km over the 21 stages, whereof 775km was ridden on the road itself. The rest I had to ride on my IDT as I had to go back to work early. My last two rides was the longest as I had to make up for 170km at the end.

To be honest, going into this challenge, I did not think I would have been able to even survive week 1, but after 5 days the pain and discomfort stopped for the most part. But now I think I am going to take a week break, will start cycling again next week saturday.
