Hi guys,

Sydneysider here, member of the Sydney Cycling Club and soon to be visitor to Capetown for a few days in early July.

Looking for some help and advice...

I hear the Peninsular is the best ride?

Are there any bunches that wouldn't mind me hopping on?

Probably looking for 90-120km, happy bunch cruising at 25kmh, like hills etc

I'll be renting a bike so any good steers there would also be appreciated.

Thanks eh!

Hi Mark and welcome to Bike Hub. Let us know where you will be staying then we can hook you up with a crowd that rides from there or thereabout.

The Peninsula will be great, so too Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and those areas.

wow guys, really appreciate the responses and thanks for the welcome Iwan.

I'll be staying in the city near Green Point, but will have a hire car, so could drive to a bunch start if it's not tooo far?

Stringbean, I'm definitely a roadie... I fall off MTB's too much!

Pretty excited to be seeing your city, it sounds great. I'll bring some Sydney weather with me ;)

No just bring rain.

I'll second irideafrica for bike rental. Dan an Harry get why you ride. And they'll sort you out.

Enjoy the stay in CT, and have a lekker ride.

Hey man.

From Greenpoint round Cape Point and back is about 100km with about 1500m of vert. It's AMAAAAAAZING on a good day. The problem right now is Chapmans Peak drive is closed due to rock falls so you might have to adjust your route. It's set to be closed for several weeks.

If Chapmans is closed you can still ride to the top (I did it yesterday) lookout from Hout Bay. It's amazing up there with no cars on the road. From Greenpoint to the top of Chappies & back is about 45km with 600m of vert.

If Chapmans is closed then I'd suggest the following.

Drive to Noordhoek.

There's a little farm village shopping centre you can park at.

Ride from there to Kommetjie. (You want to clear Masi ASAP. There's lot's of Taxi's and kids etc in the road)

From Kommetjie on to Scarborough. The road isn't great but the views are incredible and the road is pretty quiet. There's a great little coffee shop that's set up for bikes in Scarborough.

From there to the reserve

I'd ride into the reserve if I were you. It's R140 for a bike. It's about 13km from the gate to the point. The road isn't GREAT but you're likely to see an ostrich and possibly an antelope or 3. Back out of the reserve. Turn right to Simonstown.

Then from there I'd head to Simonstown. The road is great and apart from 2 little spikey hills it's downhill all the way. Good coffee at Lekker in Simonstown.

Then over blackhill and back to Noordhoek. There's a little coffee spot at Noordhoek Village and the girls selling the coffee tend to be smoking hot.

That will give you about 85-90km and about 1200m of vert.
