How muddy was the race after the recent rains?

I anticipated cold, same as last year, but that is colder.

Was going to be there like a polar bear but was sick that week. Would've been hard hard work.

The tracks were quite firm. Wouldn't really call it muddy, but there were many stream crossings in the last 25kms. My drivetrain was making nice crunchy grinding noises at the end...

The site says 1291m climbing. My strava says 1737m. That caught me out a bit near the end.

 

Edit: unless my strava is way out.

Using Strava on a phone is always far out compared to a Garmin or other device.

Saw a couple of pairs of discarded surgical gloves en route. Did they help at all with the cold? Do you wear them over or under your riding gloves? Or were they perhaps used for something else? Even with full finger mtb gloves my fingertips suffered badly in first half. Spent some time at the small fire by the first water point trying to warm my hands. Saw a guy riding with no gloves and wearing a short sleeve shirt. Yster!

It was farkin cold. My fingers were numb for about 1hour into the race. Bb is also stuffed good I got 1567m gain on garmin.
