one thing that stands out more than any diet...eating plan...exercise program on all these threads...the level of commitment.

you put 100 % effort ...be it the diet or exercise program the results will show at the end of the day....if you only put in 10 % expect the same result.

Sounds like skinny fat to me.

Could be you're burning some fat, but not gaining any muscles - and/or probably losing some in the process as.

I obviously have another kind...... :whistling:

I presume that that is what Hayley is using. If so, they have a reputation for being WILDLY inaccurate.

They are especially sensitive to hydration levels, can throw it WAY off.

Inaccurate perhaps, but as long as they are repeatable, they can illustrate a trend (downwards of course!). At least mine does....

my cheapie isn't even good for that. it jumps around every few days.

Almost impossible to give 100% everyday, year round. But consistency is more important.

In 1985 i was 125 kg (33 years old ) and started cycling again . It took me 18 months of serious daily training 60 km per day and lost 45 kg to get down to a racing weight of 80 kg and then raced in the vets  being 35 years old . I also had the ring around my gut and needed to loose that as well . My sons are all swimmers and played water polo so training with them was easy as i had to take them to the pool anyway . After a few weeks i was swimming between 800 and a 1000 m 3 times a week . The Belly Fat was gone and i lost another 5 kg . I stayed at that weight for 12 years and then slowly lost interest and put it all back again . I have now started cycling and gym again and will swim in the summer as well as i have a 12.5 m pool at home so no need to leave home .

You have the advantage that you KNOW it can be done! Good luck man!

Reminds me.of my own career.

Started cycling (again) in 1986 age 27 and weighed around 86 kg. Got it down to 78 kg and raced ( footnote: suffered and was hanging on for dear life in the back of the bunch) with Alan, Robbie, Tony Impey, Mark and the rest of the guys.

Raced till 1992 and then coasted till 1997 and raced again till 2003.

From then I cycled to the shop and on holidays a bit.

My weight shot up to 106 kg but 2016 was the turn around point. Started cycling (again) and currently got the weight down to 99kg.

Now it is just staying there. Will have to stop all the carbs and sweets as I need to drop to at least 85.

I am currently the perfect example that you cannot out train a bad diet. Eish.

I was reading through most of the discussions here.

I googled something last night and an ad came up claiming that a drop in testostorone levels (especially if you are older than 40) contributes a lot to the bellyfat problem and the struggle to get rid of it.

The free ad discussed in length the results and reasons but then as always you have to pay to get the real answers.

If I missed it apologies but was this discussed on the thread or not?

If not has anybody some knowledge about it as it makes sense what the guy (and lady) was saying.

Thanks

Eish I read through the whole saga about the doping among the amateurs and then I thought about what I said here. I was surprised that nobody commented on the testosterone issue.

Let me please be on the record. If anybody thought I was referring to something which could be illegal it was not the case. I just thought I needed to qualify my own statement. Never doped in my life and never will.

"scale" ... body fat ???  or is this some BMI type guestimate ???

You need something like a skin-fold test to get your body-fat percentage ....

just as an extra thought ....

"fat" ???

What do you consider to be "fat" ???

Going up a belt size ?

Gaining weight ?

BMI ?

Body-fat- percentage ? (skin fold or similar)

Due to eating correct I lost almost 20kg, then started very low intensity training .... Dropped maybe 1 or 2kg, stabilized and is up about 3kg at the moment !

I will be doing a skin-fold soon.  will be interesting to see what my body fat % has done .... I expect a very slight increase, due to cold weather snacking.  Pretty sure I will drop it soon enough.

BUT, I doubt I will drop 3kg, as I have been gaining some muscle mass as my exercises have increased .....

BUT, I have neglected my "core exercises" .... tummy is buldging a bit.  Just done the second set of exercises for this for the week, pretty sure my posture will be back soon enough.

The fun of being office bound most days ... if you dont MAKE time to exercise specific muscle groups they wither away .....

PS - hanging in there day after day for the last 18 months with my eating habits have paid off.  Had my follow up medical last week.  Diabetic meds reduced to pre-diabetic dosage !       Mid last year insulin injections were on the cards as strong meds were not keeping my sugar stable ....

Seems the "old conventional" low carb low fat eating plan for diabetics WORKS !!
