Okay okay. I'll spill the beans on the secret that the food companies don't want you to know.... Damn WMC goons!

You can lose weight by following these two words:

EAT LESS

That's dumb. If you have never struggled with your weight, that statement might make sense to you, but to anyone who has struggled keeping their weight in check it doesn't.

It's not dumb, thinking that's it's dumb is dumb.

People don't "struggle with their weight", they struggle with controlling how much they eat. I need to stop myself smashing things in my face every day. I love eating.

Controlling your appetite is a different point, but it still stands, eat less and you will lose weight.

When I started riding, I weighed 95, I now weigh 75.

I ate less.

Jumping on this. When I started riding I weighed 105kg, down now to 68.

Guess what changed ladies and gentlemen...i ******* ate less. And not just a once off crash diet. It was a lifestyle change.

If I only eat bread but try and eat less of it, I am not going to lose weight. Simple as that.

Cracker bread is considered by many to be a healthy food choice although it contains 77g of carbs per 100 grams. Compare that to cauliflower which contains 2g of carbs per 100g. Do you think I'd be able to eat more cauliflower bread (by wieght) at lunch instead of cracker bread?

Why do I have to control my appetite because I want to eat crap instead of eating as much as I want of the good stuff.

A calorie is not a calorie. There is so much more to it. Eating less is the crappiest dietary advice ever given. Eat less of what???

Ate less of what?

Human babies is the obvious answer. Or as you might like to refer to it, food. You know, the stuff with a caloric value. Not cardboard. But apparently a calorie is not a calorie. So I dunno, maybe I just wished really hard to not be a chunky monkey? Worked a charm though.

Eat less calories and create a negative energy balance. Its simple.

Doesn't matter if you eat doughnuts or biltong (or cauliflower)

Yes a calorie is not a calorie. If your insulin levels spike do to the calories you are consuming, your body treats those calories differently.

Sarcasm is a great defense mechanism if you don't have any knowledge to back you up.

I am not saying eating less did not help you, but I am sure the type of foods you ate also changed, whether consciously or not.

Human babies? Seriously, grow up.

It does. More for some than other, but it does.

Please share the knowledge that you are referring to that shows certain calories will make you fat while other calories will make you thin.

Obviously there is more to it, but I really don't feel like engaging with somebody who is clearly just being argumentative.

I only know of one definition of a calorie, it's a unit of energy. It's the energy needed to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree Celsius, if I remember correctly. I didn't know there was different calorie? Is a kilometer not always a kilometer either?

Pray tell what exercises do this?

Ignore already answered

Stiffmeisters reply is closest to what you want to do.Testo gains will come from both diet and exercise.

In the case of exercise..weight training is the best BUT it seems that for us older guys the trick sit with multi muscle trigger type of sets.

So for instance instead of doing just say dumbbell curls...go all the way up into shoulder press. So find anything that trigger multi large muscle groups in 1 go.

As to bulking up...as per previous replies it is crazy difficult to pick up muscle mass when you do loads of endurance work...especially if you run as part of your weekly routine.

Just make sure you keep it to between 10 and 12 reps as heavy as possible and take your time to add on weight.

Over the last 3 to 5 years I have been in the gym for an avg of 3X 45 min sessions a week and total muscle gain probably about 3kg.And I go as heavy as my joints can handle..bench press close to body weight with ease and that is in line with most more serious weight guys...only my chest don't look nearly as big.

In my opinion if you are above an 40 something male you have to be crazy not to do some weight work..All indications right now are that that is the best way to prolong your active lifespan.

There also seem to be alot of research pointing to belly fat on middle age men being related to insulin release. So try and stabilise as much as possible.

It is simply controlling calories if you want to be thin. It is controlling calorie type if you want to be healthy.

I battled all my life to be as thin as the other athletes I competed against even though I did ludicrous training hours. I just ate too much. But I only know that now in retrospect cos I thought hunger needed to be fed.

I have treated by body as an experiment on too many occasions now with repeated success to know I need anything other than a wisely chosen caloric deficit to lose weight.

But there are medical conditions which impact on this - but honestly, if you don't have one of those, it really is a choice to eat less, and wisely. And exercise normally.

My OH has lost a lot with almost no exercise just by being ultra fastidious about what she eats. And we had a few koeksisters last night, so she is not being overboard. And she does have one of the medical conditions.
